So on the wiki It said animals won't spawn in desert biomes right..
I couldn't find anything on terraforming on the wiki. :-/
So has anyone successfully changed a desert into a different biome or at least to the extent where
animals will spawn in a newly grassed in area that was previously desert? The wiki states animals
simply need a grass block to spawn into ... ok seems simple enough.
Right now im simply corraling them in.. its working definately... Just wondering if someone has
cleared an area off (desert) and successfully caused animals to spawn in a biome they aren't supposed to spaw in?

Check it out for awesome tutorials and constant content!
1) The biome doesn't change just because you change the blocks
2) In the more recent updates, animals only spawn on new chuncks, and only once. If there aren't animals there now, you'll have to lure them there from somewhere else.

1) Correct
2) Incorrect, they spawn multiple times. Just not nearly as much as they used to.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
I was thinking of writing an thread about terra forming to see everyones opinion. I think they should be ways for us to change the land to the way we want it if we want to take that kind of time and for the weather patterns to change in those areas.

We'll probably get something similar after 1.23.

But above ground??? In a biome where they are not supposed to spawn in?
Idk, I started carving it out back in 1.66. I'm not sure of the biome above as it is covered in lava

It's not currently possible to change the biome due to the way in which biomes are currently generated by the system. After the ANVIL format gets introduced (and/or if this part of the ANVIL format gets introduced), it will make it possible for something to be included that might allow players to physically change the biome by changing the blocks. As Snyder_Guy said, this may come into our version of the game sometime after the ANVIL format is introduced (which will probably occur in the 1.2.3 update).
From the Minecraft Wiki:
"The Anvil file format allows for biomes to be stored in the world data. In contrast, the Region file format relies on the seed to dynamically calculate biome placement. This would cause biome placement in older worlds to change when the biome generation code was changed. With the current Anvil format, the biome data is stored along with the rest of the world data, meaning it will not change after the world is generated and can be edited by third-party map-editing tools. Furthermore, "edge" biomes allow for biomes to continue extend beyond the edge chunks of an old world. This allows for smooth transitions in world generation after the generation code changes in an update."
Personally I'd rather it not change biomes, mainly because i place a layer of dirt over sand in a desert, and can build without rain or snow, and it rains ALOT in this game.
i had a sand biome which i built on and put a forest there, its still a sand biome but have animals spawn on the grassy areas
Awesome! Thanks for some kind of confirmation... im trying to set up a large farming area(in the desert) and didn't want to do all this grass placing
for nothing. Sure i can get animals there but some spawning from time to time would be helpful!

Thisn is the MC Xbox forum. We can't lure animals yet.
passive mobs spawn on grass block so guess it doesnt matter what biome its in, i think chickens only spawn on where theres long grass, unless from eggs
