That is not an easy question to answer, as 4J is the one to know if they can once they get anvil into the programming. Plus the Height right now is 128 for building. And on the PC it increased to 256. Whether or not we get this depends on if they can after that optimization.
I would assume that on older maps the height would be just added to, as it would be just air blocks, that is if this comes about. So in essence you will be able to build that high if things work out.
As for the last question. It might get added soon if anvil is put in. This is only a possibility. On the PC version they got there height change somewhere around 1.0 official release I believe, so it may just be a matter of time when they figure on whether anvil will be enough or not without slowing the game down when big builds are made.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
We do get the next update which is 1.2.3. This is the next update in store or until 4J says otherwise. But I am not sure about the existing maps. I imagine it would be the same with this update: new title update hits, you need to start a new world to have the new features.
1) Maybe, issues with ram prevent bigger worlds and this technically is a bigger world
2) Cannot be answered
3) 1.23, which is the next update. But world size will not be increased in this update due to ram

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
I completely disagree with everyone else saying the next update won't be exactly the same as pc, because it will.
LOL, No, it won't.
We are not getting bigger worlds due to ram. And this is MC XBLA, not minecraft on the xbox. It will not be the same. In 1.73 we got lightning changes that were supposed to come in 1.82 according to pc. But we got it early. Case closed

Really? I would like to see where 4J told us we would never get a height limit increase. Really... I would like to know.

They told about 1-2 months ago that they can't increase world size due to ram. It is on their twitter but it will take a while to find

Yes, map height (or build limit) will be increased to 256Y instead of 128 Y like the PC version, because they will switch to ANVIL map format in the next update that is 1.2.3.....And who said that we won't be the same as the PC? The only thing 4J said is they will go their "own direction" after 1.2.3 update releases....(but i hope they bring Trading, emeralds, ender chests)

They didn't mean height. Just because you consider taller bigger doesn't mean that is what they meant when they said bigger. You are taking what they said out of context. That was when people were complaining about the worlds being limited length wise. How do you think we will get jungle biomes without a height increase? The trees are frequently over the height limit. You need to tell me where 4J said we wouldn't get a HEIGHT LIMIT increase. Not a world size increase.
Actually if I am not mistaken they are looking into both increases in world and height. Also I would think they would have an annoucement about it again to let us know where they are at with it since it is kind of important to many if not most of the people who play this game.

I think there is some confusion about world size and world height here. On the PC, their 1.2.1 update included a changeover that reduced the RAM requirements of the game and enabled them to double the world height at that time. The contract to port the game onto XBox appears to have always intended to eventually bring the game up to the point of the 1.2.3 update on the PC.
The comment of 4J's that you are referring to was in response to a query about not increasing the world's lateral size at the time the query was made (i.e. under the McRegion system), to which 4J responded they looked into doing but found that they could not do it at that time due to RAM limitations.
I'm guessing, of course; but I think that when they set the current lateral world size they were anticipating the eventual doubling of the world height due to the planned implementation of the ANVIL system in the 1.2.3 update. IF the ANVIL system frees up less RAM than anticipated, it may not be a full doubling of the height; but it should free up something in order to increase it at least a little bit; IF ANVIL frees up more RAM than they anticipated, it's not totally inconceivable that it could/maybe/possibly result in a small increase in the lateral size of the world as well... or they may opt instead to add some other features that we're not expecting. It's a decision that they probably cannot make until they get the ANVIL system into the program and see what it effect is does have on RAM usage.

Taller does mean bigger... It increases the amount of blocks allowed in a world. Thus making it bigger

Well, for one, the top half of a chunk in an ANVIL world doesn't even exist in memory, until built into. For another thing, ANVIL brings along a huge optimization in the way chunks are stored. Not sure exactly what this means for RAM, but definitely something good.

Packets for sending chunks have been optimized (a full 256-high chunk is smaller than the old format, and a chunk with lots of empty space is much smaller).

Agree. This is a quote from an article reporting on an interview with Stuart Ross, of 4J, in August 2012:
"Last but very much not least, Ross says Minecraft Xbox 360 will switch to the ANVIL map format in a future update. The new format improves how the game handles memory and makes it easier to mod."
Currently on Minecraft xbox 360 edition the highest you can build blocks on the Y Axis is 125 blocks in the air.
I know in a future update they increase that number from 125, to 255. The same way they did with minecraft for the Computer.
I actually have 2 Questions, well technically 3
1. Will they actually have this update for the Xbox Version
2. Will the height be added on to existing maps? Or will I have to make a brand new map after the update to be able to build that high
3. Which update does the height limit get raised? and how many updates are are we away from it?
