I read that Indie Games can only use 256mb RAM and cannot use all 3 cores of the Xbox.
CastleMiner Z and CastleMiner have infinite worlds and cant even use as Amuch power as XBLA games.
Why can't Minecraft XBLA have infinite worlds but the indie games can?
I understand the memory problem but still..I use to run MC PC on a 640mb RAM laptop albeit with only 35fps max.
Another "If _______ can do it, why can't minecraft?" thread.
For every game that does have an infinite playing area, there's a thousand that don't.
So?
People throw the word infinite around a lot without actually knowing what it means apparently.
The only way to have infinite worlds is to have infinite memory. No game on the Xbox 360 can have infinite worlds. Even the PC version of Minecraft does not have an infinite world. It's capped at 30,000,000 x 30,000,000.
When it comes to assessing software on limited capacity hardware, you have to consider the entire package. As was stated, Castleminer Z is simply not Minecraft.
The developers of Minecraft have been doing a very credible job so far in optimizing this game to run on the XBox (that is, it runs fairly smoothly most of the time). However, they've been telling us that the key impediment to "infinite" worlds is RAM and there are clear signs that the game is pushing the limitations of the XBox overall. For example, it does lag out under certain circumstances and will even freeze the XBox on occasion (as reported by many users on this forum). The developers know their own program and they know the limitations of the XBox. Even other programmers don't have all that information.
Furthermore, 4J have said that they would like the idea of giving us a larger world. They are not against it. So, I'm very sure that if it ever becomes possible for them to increase the size of the world on the XBox (do to finding some great coding sequence that saves them RAM or the release of a new, more powerful XBox), then they will jump at the opportunity to give us a larger world.
As for the present, they have been clearly telling that its just not possible right now. So, to continually ask the people on this forum to second guess the developers is, quite simply, pointless.
Thanks for the answers guys. I wont ask questions like this anymore considering the negativity. o.O
And I wasn't complaining or second-guessing 4j. I have no problem with the worlds.
I was curious as to how it was possible with 1 game and not the other.
but it seems that has been answered.

You're welcome. I'm sorry if my comment came across as being directed personally at you. That's not what I intended; but my tone is no doubt reflecting the exhaustion I'm feeling over rehashing this very topic many multiple times over the last few weeks. New threads seem to be opened up on world size (just from slightly different angles) 3 or 4 times a day. I think there are about 3 different threads currently running just today.

Quick question, have you ever been to the far lands/edge of the pc minecraft world? Just wondering since you have been playing since it basically came out.

Yeah I have. Not legitimately though because that would take forever. It's not anything special. The world just ends basically. The game still renders the ground so it looks like it keeps going on forever, but as soon as you walk onto block number 15,000,001 (assuming you came from the center of the map) you fall through the graphics into the void and die.
Lets think about this. Minecraft runs at 60 Fps with actual animations (water running, TNT, Mobs) and can keep chunks loaded. Castle Miner has pretty bad animations, runs at about 20 Fps, and the cave systems and chunks change every time you load the game. Even though Minecraft's world is limited on the 360, lots of things go into it for one of the best gaming experiences.

For now the Xbox minecraft is limited, but does not mean it wont be updated in world size sometime.
