Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
If you're doing classic Minecraft, forge, watchtower, a mansion somewhere. Add in a mine, some farms, flag, armory, barracks, tannery, stables, and maybe a hunter's store. And don't forget the breweries.
If you're doing a modern recreation, shops, restuarants, malls, banks, towers, sky's the limit.
depends on the era, but if your aiming for mid evil or pre-modern, i'd say a blacksmith, plenty of farms, perhaps a windmill for grinding wheat into flour, maybe a water wheel to power a sawmill. You can then further specialize your villages into either farming, finishing, mining, smelting. If its a big village, you'll probably want a pub, guild or two, manner for town Mayer, some markets, ect.
Bigger city will want an arena, large market square, probably docks, millita or barracks, lots of guard houses and towers, a prison, a execution area, ect...
