I guess I could start out by listing a couple features that the fans have been wanting for a while. These aren't my specific opinions, but I've heard so much talk of the subjects, I think we should just discuss them here, on this thread. The things listed will be what different groups of fans want, and I'm going to try and list as many as possible.
~Dedicated servers~
People unfamiliar with this subject, just think about MC PC servers. You can access them when the host is offline, and have multiple people/friends join whenever they want. There's thousands of benefits from this, and 1 very VERY detrimental affect is the griefers. I'm sure 4J would know what to do, like have white-lists. White-lists are lists of players that are permitted on the server. However, if we can't do white-lists, I'm sure the new host options in 1.8.2 would do good. Just have everybody joining the server at different times not be able to build, and you can just select players that you can trust. One more thing for people unfamiliar with Dedicated Servers, they cost moo-lah. And they are usually pretty expensive. But Microsoft/4J could work out some kind of payment system. They're smart, they could do that.
~Single-player commands~
Single-player commands are commands entered by a host/user that can access things like weather changes, creative/survival game modes, giving items to players, etc. However, on PC these commands are entered in the chat. Due to the nice and easy MC360 interface, we could probably get these commands in the pause menu. If you aren't familiar with these commands still, search for them on youtube, there should be videos with tutorials demonstrating the commands.
~Updates, updates, and updates~
There's only one thing to say about the subject that is needed to keep your sanity... Patience. I know PC updates seem to flow out of Mojang (Jeb), but we have to come to the realization that updates will not come out whenever they want to. And don't be jealous fellow xboxers, we are estimated to get 1.2.3 soon, along with some unknown plans by 4J. Just be patient, it will all be worth it.
~Skin editors~
Well, many people want this, and I guess I'm one of those people. The thing others bring up is the whole lawsuit thing. Apparently if we make skins from PS3 and Wii exclusives, our guys will get in trouble. And that's literally bound to happen if we get a skin editor because the amount of fans of other consoles. Well, we'll see if 4J can limit the customizable options in an alleged skin editor to force players to make ordinary looking people I guess. I'm not big on all of the loopholes and rules against this, but you know.
~World Size~
As of right now, the world size on the current Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft is only about 1000x1000 blocks. On the PC version, this size is significantly larger in size. While many are upset about the matter, there are reasons that the Xbox edition can not extend the size of our worlds. We must remember that Minecraft was originally a PC game, and it's too advanced for a lot of the Xbox 360's specifications. What could solve this? Hopefully the new Xbox will treat Minecraft a lot better, and it's very possible that we can see better-than-PC version of Minecraft on a new Xbox.
~Player limit~
In the Xbox edition of Minecraft, the current limit of player size is 8 players. There are those who would like this limit to be extended, and I think this could be possible. I believe that the limit of players can be changed to at least 16 players, if not more. However, the only issue holding this idea back is, again, the specifications of the Xbox (or so I've heard). I am aware that there are 100 player servers an games such as 'MAG' on Xbox, but I believe the terms are different for Minecraft. Games that hold large amounts of players are games with no ability to alter the landscape extremely. Most games with a high player limit, such as Grand Theft Auto and Halo, are games in which you can PVP, cooperate, etc. Minecraft on the other hand is a game in where every block can be added to, taken away from, etc. This may change the terms of player size.
~Sky limit~
I have no clue why 4J has not improved the small sky limit, and my guess is, again, the Xbox specs. However, the 1.8.2 update made the sky height significantly taller. A lot of people can't tell the difference because of how low the cloud are, but guess what? 4J added a feature in which you can turn off clouds. Nifty, huh? This issue isn't too much of a controversy, but you know fans. They just want more and more delicious upgrades.
~Mods and Texture Packs~
Right now, modifications are out of the question due to Microsoft's rules of Xbox. This does not affect the possibility of DLC. 4J could make more DLC, such as Texture packs and add-ons. I'd like to see 4J have a very efficient and successful download system to where the DLC can be switched on and off. There is a larger issue however, and it's the price. If you have to pay even one single dollar for a mod, most fans will be very, very unhappy. This is because of the PC version is releasing mods for free. My theory is that if 4J could obtain rights of popular mods on PC, and sell them in mod packs (most likely contributing to the original modders little by little), they would work out an amazing and successful system. That means Tekkit, YogBox, etc. could be only a few dollars. Since mods on PC Minecraft are not official, most textures are bad or very glitchy. If 4J did the mods, the textures would be more tasty, and there would be little or no glitches. But be aware, this scenario is highly unlikely, I'm not Jesus, I'm just giving some possible yet distant scenarios and problem solving situations.
This is the part where I say 'Thanks for reading'. However, please list some subjects I didn't discuss. Sorry, I've been away for too long to list every possible controversial subject. I will be happy to list some other. And seriously, thanks for reading!
Good idea to keep these topics contained to one thread. I'd say the one thing you didn't go over was world size. A lot of people aren't clear on why the worlds are the size they are.
As far as skins go, they'd only get in legal trouble for selling copywritten skins without approval. If a game provides an editor that lets players create their own characters/art for free, there's no problem. Otherwise, games like Soul Calibur and Forza would be in very hot water indeed.
That being said, with free updates to the game itself, skin packs are the only real continued revenue source 4J has, other than new buyers of the game, and a skin editor would undermine those sales. So I wouldn't expect to see one.

This is definitely something I hope to see in the future. For a game like Minecraft, this is probably the biggest downfall of the missing features. I'm pretty sure they will incorporate servers at some point.

Well, with the new player permissions and host options, it seems like they're already going in this direction. I'm sure the abilities of the host will only expand in future updates. They could put teleporting in the player list, similar to what has been done in a few clones. Not sure how setting a warp point would work, but 4J can figure it out.

Like UpUp_Away recently pointed out, our updates haven't taken much longer than PC did at the time. Not to mention, 4J has good reason for the delay. Mojang can develop the game however they see fit, with very few restrictions and limitations. 4J must work within a cramped box, following guidelines and protocol, all the while they're developing for an underpowered console with obsolete hardware.

You can't really copy a trademarked entity with an MC skin design. Interpretations are a bit of a gray area when it comes to copyrights. They're very common and often they are even sold for profit. I don't think the concept would be any different in Minecraft. I think one of the bigger issues here is players copying textures used in existing skin packs.
Either way, you've brought up some good points here. I'm not trying to bash your ideas, just adding to the discussion. After all, my opinions could be completely wrong when compared to 4J's reasoning. Nobody out side of the dev team knows all of the facts yet, and some of those facts, the dev staff themselves probably don't even know. We're just throwing speculations around at the moment, all of us will have to wait before we know the true answers.
The second one would be the only one I can even want more of, but no biggy.
As far as updates are concerned they come when they get here. 4J is doing a good job so far, and sure they will continue to do so.
Like someone else mentioned, what is not on the list is world size. I myself wouldn't mind expanding the idea, but my motive is not because of pc or the size itself. Just a friendly way to connect worlds would be good enough for me. My only concern is the world height, which i am sure they will think of something, which is the only thing I would consider feasible once they have anvil in there. If the worlds were to get bigger, I am sure it will not be by much.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

I would say if 4j made similiar people in a texture pack it would be worth buying and better than customizable skins because they would still make money. For example: In an RPG world people need specific skins like a guard, prisoner, chef, etc. They should put all of those in 1 skin pack instead of 19 different skin packs.

Just a thought on this, if 4J made it so you could mix and match heads, arms, legs, and bodies out of the existing ones, this would allow for a lot of customization, without infringement issues.
All good points, porkchopz. I think the key to it all is a little patience. 4J are firstly committed to getting the game up to 1.2.3. Once we get past that, then I'm pretty confindent that a whole bunch of other stuff the community has been asking for will start happening as long as it can be added without blowing over the limitations of the current XBox hardware. Whenever the new XBox gets released and if the market interest is still there, then the sky's the limit... and there may even be no sky limit!
Sorry that I have not updated this thread, I had a very busy week. I am back at home, and wish to take in more requests of controversial subjects. I've added 4 more, please send more and they'll happily be added
Another "I want the xbox to be just like the PC" thread.
I'm a fan.
I don't want all that stuff.
I want better stuff!
They did say they want to 'take a different path than the PC version' which kind of scares me.
Doesn't scare me at all- I'm looking forward to it! The more different the better. As wolfeuk said, if you want to have things the 'old' way… go get on the PC.
But I want a better way, a better MC.
Dedicated servers would be nice, But considering it took 4J a year to add an ender dragon. I'm gonna give them a decade to add dedicated servers...
It DID NOT take 4J a year to get to the dragon, it took a year from 1.7.3 to 1.1. It took another 1 and a half, 2 months to add the dragon when they were supposed to, in 1.0, BUT, I don't blame them for that at all, because, they had to totally rewrite code for enchating, brewing, and new items. Be grateful we're not still in 1.7.

I don't really know the legalities with skin editors but I don't think 4J or Microsoft would get sued. For instance some Racing games let you completely customize the images on your car but you don't see them getting sued for player putting Mario on the car. the reason i think they will NEVER allow a skin creator is because there would be no reason for skin packs because we could re-create skins from said skin packs. It's the money keeping them from creating a Skin maker not the fear of getting sued.
