I have seen this mentioned a few times, and everyone just blows it off and doesn't consider it. Explain to me in detail, why we can't have the same size world we have now on the other side of a loading screen when you come to the edge of the map. I have zero problem with a loading screen if it means I get to explore more of the world without "just starting a new world to explore the same size piece of land again". Sorry but I happen to be one of the ones that doesn't consider "start a new world" a solution, I have many massive fortresses and castles made entirely on survival, I collected every resource to make my world how it is. The nether is available after a brief loading screen right? Why cant the north, south, east and west walls of our world be the loading screen to yet another land the same size, this completely solves the world size issue, the game wouldn't have to struggle to handle a larger world, it would just make the zone you left "sleep" pretty much until you come back, so it isn't loading the blocks of a section you aren't in. Does the game constantly load the nether even when you aren't in it? That would be dumb, please explain how the loading screen works, because if it isn't having to think about the nether until you enter it, I don't see why they don't just make loading screens to access more unexplored land beyond the worlds edge. If this is the solution then we should get it noticed for them to consider testing it, don't just toss this idea aside if it could solve the world size being small. Sorry but a lot of us think it is small, you may be easily entertained with your "survival island edition" but many of us want more than just two minutes of walking before we see the limit of the world. I want someone smart to answer my question, if you are a programmer explain why this can't work, please do not attempt to inform if you do not entirely understand how this works. Thanks for reading.
Edit: By the way I do not have a computer and I will never get one because I do not enjoy being hunched over a keyboard in a chair staring at a monitor, I prefer my 1080p hd tv and a couch while I relax.

They are probably waiting on the newer, more powerful XBox to come out and then will revolutionize the game such that the PC will be left way behind in the dust. It's as good a reason as any.
Just because you would rather walk off the edge of the same world than start a new one does not automatically entitle you to any more detailed explanation of the reasoning behind the decision than someone who doesn't mind starting new worlds. Game programmers are known to be a very secretive bunch, so we have aready gotten a lot more explanations out of 4J than the norm. They have expressly said that it has to do with not having enough RAM on the XBox to accomplish that AND fit in the rest of the game (which is still being added to). They have the knowledge of how their own program works which no one else has, so they are the ONLY ones in a position to make the assessment as to what is possible and not possible and what changes would hamper the performance of the game as a whole.
This discussion has not only been "mentioned" a few times, it has been thrashed over ad nauseum. Just live with it for awhile. In a little more than a year when the newer XBox comes out, the "game" will change completely.
MettleLust does have a point. While it's clear that you can't keep a large world in the Xbox's memory considering that it's RAM is pityfully small compared even to today's low-spec computers, the question I keep asking myself is why the vast part of a large world isn't simply swapped to the HDD and the game streams the parts of the world it needs. That technique has been around for a very long time and sees frequent use in games like GTA IV, Skyrim, Two Worlds, etc. I mean, it has been used back on the old PlayStation in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and Silent Hill. And those games had to stream data from rather slow optical drives while the Xbox provides a way faster HDD.

I've wondered about this as well. I've seen this idea presented 100 times now, and I must say it's one of the best solutions. BUT... How would it work in multiplayer? You would either technically have multiple worlds opened at once, which will most likely cause some problems. Or everyone would have to agree to move on to the next sector, which would kind of defeat the purpose. If the latter was the case, it would effectively only become a solution for people who are too lazy to return to the main menu before switching worlds.

Playing games that have come to the Xbox in the last little while, makes me think that ram isnt the end all reason why the game cant be different, and why they cant do certain things with the game that would shut most players who want something more up. And to me a person who doesnt know anything of about computers or how the games work on a certain platform and what takes up to much space, and what doesnt. A block in minecraft doesnt seem to be such a demanding thing to put down, when you look at games that have come up in the past week or so, and what they were able to do with those games and the subtleties that are on the clothing or even on a gun, to me seems whay more demanding than a pixelated block
But minecraft is a game that will always be good but it could be better, one update will be announced everyone will be excited for a little while. than when the update is a week or so away, everyone will comeplain about before its out. and when the update is finally out, you will want the next thing.
It will never be good enough, and no one will ever be happy with the end result.

RAM probably isn't the "end all" reason, but it IS the reason they have already given us; and they're the only ones who really know the score. Demanding repeatedly that other programmers come onto the forum to critique 4J's reasoning is, IMO, putting those other programmers into a very unprofessional position and, on top of that, it's pointless. 4J have also said a long time ago that they like the idea of larger worlds, so they will probably work to make them possible as soon as they can. So, continually treating them like they're just being stubborn and mistreating their customers is also not a very good thing.
So why do people feel the need to continue to badger them and the other users of this forum who have really just decided to make the best of what we've got and enjoy the worlds we have for what they are? Infinite terrain is only a click away.. just start another world! It's easy. You may be able to walk to the surface in about an hour, but you certainly can't see all there is to discover underground in that time. Just today, I came across the most beautiful lava fall with a water fall beside it flowing into a huge dome cave. It was breathtaking.
To also insist time and time and time again that no one should enjoy the terrain that's on their map just because they can't keep walking in one direction forever... and that not wanting a boundary edge somehow entitles them to a detailed program explanation is just being plain stupid and pigheaded... particularly since there are already about 300 threads on this forum on this exact same topic.

I have wondered why they cant do this myself. /:

Since 4J hasn't told us after all this time (and threads) about this, don't expect them to answer you.
Besides, it's a secret.
