When creative was introduced and you started a new world... Did you give your self a
head start with some items(i.e Diamond Pick/Sword) or go in with a fist and a prayer? Which and Why?

I actually like the bonus chest thing, as it really doesn't give a whole lot to start out with and only really basic stuff like wood or stone tools and some other minor things, possibly even a bit to eat. However those do wear down fast. It is a nice start since easy is not really easy, it mind as well be the same as the rest since there isn't much difference between them.
As far as creative goes that depends on my mood and which world I decide to play on. Most the time though I only spruce up the villages before I actually play on survival. I sometimes though go beyond and put what you would normally find in a chest to not get too far ahead as that tends to make things sometimes dry after a while.><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I really don't see the point of creative mood and I havn't used it but I'm getting to the point in my world (which I started the day it came out on the xbox360) to get some of the new feature as they don't spawn nor do the new structures which is kind sad so I currently am wondering do I start a new or keep old and kind of mod it.
P.S I don't give my self a head start that what a noob would do!!

I just started playing survival on normal instead of easy and I'm getting used to it.
I started my current world with bonus chest tho seeing as its my first on normal.
I've only died once when I tried escaping a creeper over a ravine lol
When I read the title I thought you were talking about saying grace at the table.

I tried creative, but then it dawned on me that the point was lost to build anything, when the consequences were also gone. I’m creative, but not enough to do it without a cause. In survival I build things with function in mind, and the form comes later. In creative there’s no real need to build houses, castles, mansions, estates, or cities. It's kind of like painting a wrecked car. Whats the point? I'm sure others find one, but for me. Not so much.

"Forgive him, for he believes that the customs of his tribe are the laws of nature!" ~ George Bernard Shaw
I use the bonus chest almost all the time. Reason for this is that, firstly, the stuff in it is really just some wood or wooden planks, wooden and/or stone tools, and maybe some bread and/or apples, and secondly because I frequently keep spawning in the middle of HUUUUGE plains or deserts with not a single tree around. I mean, I've started a world where the only trees where in a very small forest in one corner of the map; the rest was desert, plains, and ocean. The bonus chest does provide a little but valuable help in such cases.
Yet the only time I've started a map in creative to give myself some stuff and then play on survival is when I create a Skyblock map from scratch. Hunting for all the stuff you need to set up a Skyblock map in survival is just plain ridiculous if you can (finally) do it in creative.
Can't beat pure Survival, going into Creative and giving yourself a 'head-start' kinda takes the fun out of survival if you already have stuff! Where's the fun in earning something later and being like 'oh wait, I started with these anyway...'
The only exception to Creative or even the Bonus Chest option, would be if you were playing on an old 1.6.6/1.7.3 world and didn't have something like Sugar Canes/Clay, or a lack of it, so giving yourself at least 1 Sugar Cane through survival would help you out in the long run!

The bonus chest helps. I chose a seed that spawns me in a plain, so I needed the chest so I wouldn't starve. The nearest tree was like a hundred blocks away.
Personally, I think creative is purely for creations. Survival is manning up, or in my case "womaning" up starting by punching a tree with your fists! Bonus chests are cheap, you can make the stuff it gives you in two seconds, IMO.

Retired StaffA.K.A. fist and a prayer.
I don't really have a vote, since I don't actually "play" the game. I just build stuff all the time.
Oh I know what he meant.
Amen brother.

I just use it to get food cause I like to explore for a bit to find somewhere to build my house.
