Hey! First of all, very happy with the major improvements in the recent patch (& bug fix) as it adds much more versability to the game for us on the xbox too
But in danger of sounding greedy (I'm greedy.) Is there any notion of when we'll see stuff like enchanting and experience on the xbox 360 version as well?
And now to pick up the stick and beat the dead horse(or pig / ): When will you add an -option- for a bigger world size?
I mean, let's be real, sooner or later, those who love minecraft on xbox will probably mostly move onto the pc edition, not because its newer but because of the restricted world size on the xbox edition.
I know about the reasons behind the minecraft world size restriction.
Even so, if there's an OPTION to let one play in a bigger world size, I think people would happily accept some
laggy moments. Especially since people mostly will single play or play multiplayer online.
That said, tons of appreciation from this one for optimizing a game for split screen multiplayer.
A lot of people have asked for this before. However, I will let that slide because it has been a while since I have seen one. The common answer is that Xbox has a serious limit on the size a file can be for a save game. As the map gets larger the file size gets larger. This is what keeps the map from being larger. I would love for this idea to be supported, don't get me wrong, but I can't see it happening. Ever.
To the other suggestions, I believe that enchanting and experience may come in time. Realize, Minecraft is going from Java to C++ to fit in with the iOS, Android, and Xbox games. It is a completely different programming language, and I believe they are following the PC updates, as their recently passed pistons they are somewhere from 1.7.3 to right before 1.0.0. They may add this in an upcoming update, so I wouldn't be worried that it will be too long.
Although world size is nice, and hopes of having a height size increased is one of mine, I can live without till they can. Not everyone can run the PC edition smoothly. Also many people have more reason than world size being the reason to play xbox edition.
Most stuff at least up to 1.2.3 will be put in eventually, so I am patiently playing when I can till the time comes. Who knows after that. Plus between the PC and xbox, to me they are both different games and would play both for what they are as separate games.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
One more time: "save file size" is NOT the hindrance to world size. (Will this myth ever go away?)
The limited amount of ram the xbox has is the problem.
I can't find it now, but I read somewhere that the game itself takes up 150mb of memory when running, sound files another 50mb, then there's the OS, etc. Not much left out of 512mb for world size.

No, what keeps maps from getting larger is the limited RAM of the Xbox 360. 4J has confimered this. The Xbox 360 is too old and too limited to have larger worlds. The only way to do so would be to move the server client running on the 360, off onto a separate server. That is why Microsoft and 4J are in talks of doing something possibly close Battlefield 3's Rent-A-Server. (NINJA'D)
As for Enchanting/XP will be coming in the 1.2.3 update. This has been confirmed by 4J multiple times on their Twitter.
It's not a myth is it? Maybe it is the save file that isn't big enough. I mean, with the extra hard disk drive, or saving to a USB drive, they don't have that much memory. 100+ Gig. Tut. 512MB Ram is enough to play Total Annihilation on the PC, so surely it's enough for a limitless MCXBLA world?

Sorry for the sarcasm, Agreed. +1.
RAM is the issue. The Xbox only has 512MB. It has to use that 512MB to run an operating system in the background, a game client for Minecraft, a server client for Minecraft, and then handle the loading and unloading of chunks, and rapid creation, movement, or placing of blocks.
4J have said the only way to make worlds bigger is to remove some of the load off of the 360 onto something else like an actual server.
That is something else people don't think about when trying to use all the Indie game block games as examples. They are all far less complex compared Minecraft.
I can agree with your post there. It does make sense. HOWEVER, and please hear me out
I was thinking while reading your post, about an 'infinite' world, or even just a larger world, on the Xbox360, and I thought. . .Fallout. Now I know that it is NOTHING like MC, but, it does have a Huuuuge world, and you can move/manipulate things, and when you go back to that point in the game, that thing you moved is still where you left it.
Take Fallout3 for instance. IF you go to the bottom right hand corner of the map and place a 20 nuka cola bottles on the wall (Lol), then go to the top left corner of the map and do the same. (Bear in mind that, if you haven't played Fallout3, the map will take about 3-4 hours to walk across, not including fighting things, much bigger than MC) After placing them, do a few missions, and go back to the two places, the bottles will still be there.
That game has better graphics, physics/gravity, running water, 'mobs', NPC's etc etc. All on a console with 512MB Ram.
I know we're taking about 2 different games, and I am faaaaarr from a computer game designer, but could someone explain why Fallout can do it, but MC can't?
Is it because Fallout saves what has been changed, then clears the RAM? If so, why can't MC do this?

Except the fact that MCXBLA doesn't have to truly load and unload chunks, just textures I believe. If chunk loading was handled the way it is on PC, larger worlds would be much more plausible. I think the main reason 4J did it this way was for smooth split-screen gameplay.
Don't know- I'm not a programmer either.
But I do know MC is "different" than other games. If they could've made bigger worlds, they would've (and they might later after they see what they've got after all the updates are coded in). All I'm saying is, yea, it's possible to have bigger worlds…. but we'd have to give something up to do it. I'm not a "bigger worlds" fan, and I'd hate to give up ½ of the MC experience to get them.
I've never played it, but doesn't Fallout have just 1 world, hard-coded into the game, and all it has to do is remember the changes to that world and not the whole thing?

Exactly. It IS only one world, albeit alot bigger and more detailed. You can 'move' almost anything in the enviroment, which is where my comparison comes from. . . 1000's of rusty tin cans. . . 1000's of blocks for your house. (Get it?)
I too aint a huge fan of bigger worlds. I haven't filled mine yet. BUT, I think it's more down to HOW minecraft uses the xbox's Ram, more than the xbox's ram being too small. It all boils down to the Ram thing though.
Well hopefully they will figure something out in time on making the maps bigger. Also I have played fallout 3 and you can make some changes to the world like blowing up a town and killing people, but I dont really think its the same thing. You can dramatically change your world every time you play minecraft. I have had times where my friend and i have played, especially after using TNT.

Sorry, I didn't mean 'story' object manipulation. Like blowing up the town Megaton. I meant like the smaller things. Moving individual tin cans, basketballs, teddybears, vacuum cleaners etc around, and them staying there permanently. Just like when you move that wooden block from the tree, to the chest and it stays there.

The whole Fallout 3 world isn't loaded at once, that's why you go through instances when you enter towns and other special areas. Haven't you ever glitched out of a town? The Wasteland becomes The Bugland. (As if Bethesda's Fallouts weren't buggy enough.) But still, the whole Wasteland makes up a small percentage of an MCXBLA world and isn't nearly as dynamic. Moving entities around doesn't really compare to altering every single aspect of a world.

Y'know, I've never really had any bugs on any of the fallout games. 1 or 2 scorpians being 'embedded' in the floor, but that's about it. Lucky I guess. LOL
