I am somewhat of an unexperienced Minecraft player with no relation to Minecraft before the Xbox version.
I am having trouble finding the amount of diamonds some players have... Some claim in the 40s or higher personally I have not found this many diamonds legit all up I found 4 today by pure luck... Other than that the last I found were mining a thick 11 blocks in volume per metre mineshaft that went 600m+ where I found 8 in one vein all up.
You didn't have to read all that ^
So I was wondering if any of you could share some of your diamond hunting tips with me.
All I really know is that you dig around y 11 that's it.

The wiki has some good articles on mining techniques. My personal fave (on the XBox) is to block out an area & then systematically expose all blocks... this doesn't mean MINE all blocks, just expose them. Pick a starting point at y12. Dig two shafts, equidistant, at a right angle to each other. Let's say one going north, the other going east. A chunk is 16x16, so if each is 32 blocks long, you're framing an area that includes a minimum of 4 chunks.
Now go to the end of the north tunnel, and then turn east for another 32 blocks, then south for another 32, to link it all together.
Finally, start digging straight tunnels at every 3rd space, all the way through, from north to south or whatever. That will expose every block in that area while mining absolutely the least number of blocks to do so. When done, cut down two more layers and start over again covering the same grid. Repeat til you hit bedrock.
Alternately, you could just go straight in one direction until you hit the edge of the map, move over a few spaces, turn around & head back. The key here is that every broken block exposes the maximum number of blocks around it. Strip mining is really only useful if you're quarrying for a massive structure... but you're looking for diamonds. You'll still end up with more cobble than you know what to do with, trust me!
remember and check quite a few blocks around any diamonds u find, supposedly they r sometimes diagonal to the block u mine so are hidden as no surface of the block is in view, i quite often find them a block up and over from first one i c or the same below
Yea I did do that it was overhanging a lava lake and surrounded on all sides by other ores
Guess What... I found five more diamonds!!! That's a total of 2 I found in a chest and 5 I found in that cave making 12 total which is easily the most I've Lund in a day let alone probably a month. Thanks for the tips all

Thanks I have found an abandoned mineshaft already and took all the tracks form it which I still haven't used and I also found about 3 mob spawners in my world sofar not including poisoness spiders because once I get to them they no longer exist. I Hate CAVE SPIDERS. As for my diamond mining I realised I have done something stupid and mined every 2nd row leaving one unmined row in between. Doh!

Great news I've found 5 more diamonds 15 diamonds today!
New personal best I've probably nearly doubled all diamonds that I've ever found legitimately in the three hours

New question!
Why am I finding slime balls in my 1x2 tunnels?
Could they be spawning and suffocating in blocks?
Then leaving slime balls there? thank you again for this it just keeps getting better.

Nope I found em in the diamond mine tunnels that we discussed.
It isn't dark enough for skeletons to spawn.
I'm quite sure they spawned somehow and suffocated in the walls of my tunnels.
