I'm not passing any judgments on anyone who feels about Minecraft as a means of escaping for a little bit. I was just honestly answering the question as it applies to myself; and the specific reason I dusted off the old XBox and learned to play Minecraft was so that I would have a basis to have some fun with my friend's kids while I was tasked with looking after them during the summer. It's the same reason we occasionally sit down to a hand of cards or a board game.
i don't think anyone should take any sort of offense at a game being referred to as "just a game." Games have been providing people and families with hours of enjoyment for generations. A game is what Minecraft is afterall. It's what it's designed to be, and it's not obligated to be anything more than that to be enjoyable and fun. That some other people find it more than that is quite OK with me.
And answering my question is completely fine with me. Just wanted to know what else you had to say about the topic. And I respect and am open to your opinion. I always like good conversation ;P
I myself wouldn't really think of it as an escape, as that is better left for bed. As in sleeping the lucid dreams I have when I have them. I do like the fact it is just a game. Nothing wrong with that. For me though minecraft fits with a certain mood of mine, while there are others games that suit my other moods, if not something just to watch.
As far as relieving stress... unsure about that. It is what it is. And sometimes does in itself become stressful. That is what the other games are for. A change of pace. Reason enough to continue playing and creating. At least for me...
Lucid dreaming is an amazing thing to be able to do. And yes, I understand Minecraft can be slightly stressful at times, but I would never full on rage quit Minecraft. Because I want to go out and find that stuff I just dyed with and get even more. I guess it's a feeling of self achievment and the desire to have more.
Any videogame is an escape from reality. Just like any other form of stress relief, it must be moderated, or you risk making your reality a lot worse. However, I think everyone should have a vice to indulge in every once in awhile. Stress can be a big deal honestly, and can even cause physical health issues.
Life is all about balance.
Unfortunately, I seem to know what that feels like O.o

Yeah I wouldn't truly rage quit, it would be more like upset delete, which I have done before. After all it is usually the beginning when I have done that only once. Sometimes getting items back in the beginning can be tough, and was the reason I ended up deleting that world, although I regret it...><
Lucid dreams is something I kinda cherish, since quite a few people around me are have said they don't get them often. At least not as often as I do. Then again I trained myself to be able to get such dreams, growing up learning how to do it every night. It can be a blessing and a curse at times, but that can be said to just about everything. You would know what I mean by that if you wake up disoriented after that kind of dream. lol
Of course I haven't deleted more beyond that one, and continue to play even when I am not in the mood in which would get me ideas of any of the maps I have saved, old or new.

I've deleted lots of worlds, but not in any sort of rage. I consider starting new ones just a part of the game. The only time it got a little frustrating was when the rename bug hit and worlds disappeared that I didn't intend to have disappear.
Well I have deleted lots of worlds myself, but it was only that one specific one that I did, and that also was in 1.7.3 that I did that in. Since then I haven't deleted ones I wanted to play on or the ones I kept for having the 1.7.3 generation.
Most the ones I have deleted was when I was searching for a new world to do things on, always too much of something it seemed or too flat. I don't mind flat land, but when the whole world is almost flat or full of water I just don't really like those. Anyway it is not to say I am finished searching for a world, as I have yet to find one to play survival on. Well non-peaceful one that is. Bad habit of sprucing up the villages I come across in creative before i switch to survival...>< And don't want enderman ruining the look of my villages... Since quite a few of the ones I find are full of enough holes in the ground as is. Namely big cave systems. lol
And as I mentioned it really wasn't rage, just was upset at the time. Since I was not able to get my stuff back, not that it matters now since I will not be able to get that world back...>< lol

1045 posts on the MC forum and UpUp calls it "just a game" =D
you, sir, are in massive denial ;p
Not in denial at all. When I'm posting here, I'm not playing Minecraft, am I? Playing a little Minecraft is just a basis for being able to engage in the conversations here; and as I stated above, I actually started playing the game in order to have a basis to engage in conversations with my friend's kids.

I lucked out on that bug. Renamed a world successfully without a single issue. I don't think I've ever deleted a world, except for one that became corrupted. I don't even delete the saves I never play on anymore, I just let them sit there forever. Then again, I'm the kind of guy that never deletes his messages.
My office has a suspended ceiling- I often look at the square ceiling tiles and wonder how quickly I could mine them..
I do enjoy the escape- I also like starting a building with a plan in mind, only for it to evolve dramatically as I go.
I do this when I am sitting in school every once in a while. And I love when an idea can evolve into something great and different

Your reasons of playing, I think is great. A lot of conversation with others always keeps my mind going. Just like now. To engaged into a topic such as Minecraft can be a very good thing.
