Any videogame is an escape from reality. Just like any other form of stress relief, it must be moderated, or you risk making your reality a lot worse. However, I think everyone should have a vice to indulge in every once in awhile. Stress can be a big deal honestly, and can even cause physical health issues.

Life is all about balance.
True, but I find Minecraft to do it best. As far as a stress reliever that is. It's calm. Nice. Peaceful. The games soundtrack makes this a million and more times better. And losing your grasp on reality. That is a scary thought but as you said life is all about balance. And some people need to learn how to limit themselves.
Indeed, as an architect student, I play Minecraft to get ideas, you can't even tell how many good projects have come out of random building and translating that in real life
Of course, i also play minecraft for the thrill of adventure, i love exploring

Oh, it's not the best... definitely not the best. It is one of the better ways to waste time though, as it can also be used as a learning tool. If anything, it at least helps expand one's imagination and creativity.

I see what you're gettiing at And what you say is true and I respect your opinon it
Depends on what kind of mood i am in. Grand Theft Auto is my release if i am stressed out. Nothing like mowing down a bunch of pedestrians to relieve some stress. Minecraft is my release if I just want to relax and Ladies are my favorite form of release no matter what mood i am in.
Definately, I find that more recently with increased job hunting and also increased work at a job i hate, and an ongoing talks with my solicitors, that im stressed more than any human should be, and games like call of duty, fifa, etc just dont do anything to relieve that stress, in fact they work the opposite, so I find myself a few evenings a week, relaxing on minecraft and that seems to have a great effect on my stress levels
Call of Duty stresses me out beyond belief. Because it isn't a game you are ment to sit back relax and play. You have to actually try to make yourself feel like you're having fun.

GTA is another one of mine too. Multiplayer with my friends cannot be any more fun. Always puts me in a good mood.
Growing up with games in my life, I could never think of it that way
I grew up with games in my life too. To me, "just a game" is not a derogatory statement, since playing games and having fun is important to balancing our lives. Still, I would never want to use a game as a means of escaping real life. Instead, games, to me, are a means of engaging with my friends and family of different ages in a very real way. My friends and family are what make my real life pretty good... and not something I want to escape from.

Sometimes people need the means to escape reality. Because sometimes it is way too much to handle. But they can't go on doing it, because as stated before there needs to be balance.

I'm not passing any judgments on anyone who feels about Minecraft as a means of escaping for a little bit. I was just honestly answering the question as it applies to myself; and the specific reason I dusted off the old XBox and learned to play Minecraft was so that I would have a basis to have some fun with my friend's kids while I was tasked with looking after them during the summer. It's the same reason we occasionally sit down to a hand of cards or a board game.
i don't think anyone should take any sort of offense at a game being referred to as "just a game." Games have been providing people and families with hours of enjoyment for generations. A game is what Minecraft is afterall. It's what it's designed to be, and it's not obligated to be anything more than that to be enjoyable and fun. That some other people find it more than that is quite OK with me.
I myself wouldn't really think of it as an escape, as that is better left for bed. As in sleeping the lucid dreams I have when I have them. I do like the fact it is just a game. Nothing wrong with that. For me though minecraft fits with a certain mood of mine, while there are others games that suit my other moods, if not something just to watch.
As far as relieving stress... unsure about that. It is what it is. And sometimes does in itself become stressful. That is what the other games are for. A change of pace. Reason enough to continue playing and creating. At least for me...:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
To sit down. And let your mind fill with ideas. And just relax and block out everyone and everything. Just listen to the music and go with it.
This is what I like to "escape" to. A world that I can roam around, discover new things, and create in.
Anyone else?
Killing creepers and building to music is always a good thing, minecraft is a good way to relax after college homework and work.
