So when the 1.8.2 update was coming I found out I would have to make a new world to get the
strongholds and abandoned mine shafts... I didn't see a need to start a new world to have to deal
with new spiders and and spikey fish worms... I was happy with my world. Having explored it
all in the search for the all elusive sugar cane, I knew nothing new would generate.(Even if it had there were no guarantees that the new features would populate)
Problem was my world was still affected by the update... Heavily built upon areas showed lag, pistons
would now lag and mined blocks would break after a period of disappearing.....Simply walking close to this area would make the game lag.
Everything was perfect before the update, even my imperfect redstone creations though convoluted worked great..... now not so much.
Does someone with more knowledge of the updates and bugs know if these
things are supposed to be resolved. Or does the update now realize
how crappy my creations were and now refuses to run them as they did before?
Simple stuff 4 pistons to create and opening floor.
Cobble stone generator with pistons pushing the cobblestone upwards.
A thing I made with about 15 pistons to have a tree grow, pull it and push it creating
and easily mineable wooden wall.
A sand generator.
Nothing really runs at the same time as the others but extremely laggy now.

Playing offline would help this. It is a known issue (it is not a bug, it is an internet problem) try not having 4 or more people.
Creating a new world would definitely fix this... For that world, not the old one

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

Well I strictly play offline actually and never have had anyone else in the world or played online. :-/

If you play an old save file on a newer version of any game, you're bound to run into issues. This is just the way things work. Minecraft is one of the most dynamically changing games out there. When new features are added, some of the old ones become obsolete and cause clashes in data. They tend to "confuse" the CPU, so to speak, which in turn causes framerates to drop as the game waits for the CPU to catch up.
This will mainly happen when using features that have been improved by the update, such as redstone. Bottom line, you might as well get used to it.

So with what you're saying would I be safe to assume 1. That on each update a new world would be needed and 2. If I build the same devices on a new world.. The devices would work flawlessly simply because it was built post update?

My old 1.7ish world was fine, with a little lag. The new update makes my NEW worlds kind of bugged, but that's why there's bug FIXES.
However, worlds that are still standing after the update....are obviously, from what I've heard bugged out, I believe pistons ARE getting a fix, so your piston/redstone creations should work smoothly soon!

1. Not necessarily. You can still play on old worlds, just don't be surprised if some things are a bit more buggy, and you feel more prone to framerate drops.
2. Again, not necessarily. I have yet to see a redstone machine that works flawlessly every single time, and I've been building them since release. The game, though official, is still a work in progress, and it will be for a while. Updates will be released, new glitches will arise, bugfix patches will conquer them, (hopefully) and the cycle repeats.
We won't have a completely polished game until 4J stops releasing updates. My theory is that Microsoft is only letting 4J have free patches until they hit the equivalent of 1.2.3, which was the version PC was on when MCXBLA released. Then, I'm guessing they'll throw a bugfix at us and start developing DLC exclusively.
That's just my prediction. It may be right, or it may be completely wrong. Only time will tell.
I have no problems within my old world, and it has everything you mentioned and more including a HUGE (800x800 slime cave at bedrock, 2 sand generators (1 for a self repairing spleef arena) , a 5 at a time coblestone generator, a piston array powered clock with both server runtime and ingame time options. semi auto farms for wheat, cactus, and sugar cane. A mob spawner with over 3700 pads, torches around my house that are at least 300 blocks radius. a heavily modified tree farm based on eedze's, design tutorial at I also have a massive minecart system implemented, a huge semi auto mushroom farm, (now broke with nerfed mushroom growth). A somewhat functional minecart storage system, and a self building house.
Not sure what would be causing your lag, i'd play around a bit to see if you can't find the problem, if you truly don't want to abandon your world. The biome shifts might be the key, but i don't believe the data format for the world changed much only world generation code. I believe it does change in 1.2.1 or 1.2.5. Which when we get it will force us to convert our worlds.

Yeah i got a big inground area with animals, a pretty long rail system, slime farm and alot of piston based mob spawner traps throughout but nothing too major so I'm glad its working steady for others! I hope the update will correct some issues with mine.
Thanks guys!!
