In the 1.2.3 equivalent update, they will be switching to the Anvil map generation/save system. On the PC, that raised the build height from 128 to 256. Not saying that will happen on the Xbox 360 Edition, but it's very likely to happen.
Most likely since you can fly up to 1245 blocks up (but only build to 128, also, the flight height depends on the map and what player you are. The most i've seen is 1245 then it just stops. But I have also seen it stop at 465. But this would be the same as increasing world size which cannot be done due to limitations on RAM. But it seems they are already using some ram on empty space.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

Yeah, the invisible ceiling seems to be completely random. I was stopped at 511 earlier today. :S I also have my doubts about them increasing the height of the build limit. We've already heard of several bugs that were supposedly caused by having too many blocks in a world. Was that ever confirmed, by the way?
Then again, it would still be a good idea for people who want to start a superflat world and build something like this:

Yes. That bug was proven to be in the dynamic height mod on pC like I said earlier.

Anvil takes much less memory to generate worlds. It also unloads chunks where there are no players and only renders them for you to see. Empty space like air causes no problem at all and takes up almost no memory.

So there would be next to no changes in performance unless we had something in the extra sky blocks.
And the less memory thing... Could that mean the Xbox can handle bigger worlds?

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

Anvil is basically a huge memory optimization for the game. Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition currently uses the McRegion file format. When it changes to Anvil, these changes will happen. (This is from the Pc, so who knows what 4J may decided to keep or take out of the Anvil file format)
The only changes from MCRegion to Anvil were in the Chunk format - the Region file format is still used, but labeled as Anvil. The Anvil format introduced these changes to the Chunk format:
Maximum build height has been increased to 256 (was 128).
Empty sections of the world are not loaded into memory or saved to disk.
The maximum Block ID has been increased to 4096 (was 256) by adding a 4 bit data layer (similar to how meta data is stored).
Block ordering has been changed from XZY to YZX in order to improve compression.
Packets for sending chunks have been optimized (a full 256-high chunk is smaller than the old format, and a chunk with lots of empty space is much smaller).
Biomes are saved per X,Z column
Do not expect this to make worlds any bigger in any way, shape, or form other than possibly increasing build height.
Looks like we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
(Personally, I think you "larger world" fans are going to be really disappointed.)
(I still don't understand why raising the sky limit is a big deal or "needed" anyway).

Did anybody even see this?
I mean, come on... That wouldn't look nearly as awesome at half the height. People could build towers and skyscrapers with much more detail that still look proportional. It might finally encourage players to attempt some nice looking megabuilds. Right now everyone makes an excuse for their builds, saying PC has an advantage. Nobody takes into account that the best builders often spend several months on a single project.
Actually, I was looking at a block being about 3 feet, roughly 1 meter.
For the "meter" people, that's 256 meters (new raised sky limit). So the Eiffel Tower is 320.04 meters tall- still too tall to reproduce life-size…. no matter how you measure it.

A scale of 1:1.25 isn't a noticeable difference really. That's still plenty of room for detail. And to any one who hasn't spent most of their life studying the Eiffel Tower, it will probably look full-scale. Even if they notice, I doubt they're going to freak out because it's 12.5% smaller than the real deal.
I'm also confused about the point you're trying to make. First the height raise wasn't a "big deal" and unnecessary. Now the limit isn't high enough?
When I first saw that picture I thought it was from another game or a 'render' of something, then I looked closer and was amazed when I saw that blocks were infact making up that incredible creation
It would be awesome to have the Anvil format in order to increase the build height/limit, and like you said, people who be able to create skyscrapers and such with much more height to play with, rather than having to build in a smaller proportion in order to get good results without getting half-way through and finding out its about to be cut off...
Yeah, I used to not think much of the new building height cap. But once I saw the entries in PMC's sky-limit build contest, I realized what this truly brings to the table. Hopefully someone will come along and take advantage of this when MCXBLA gets the update.
I know it won't be me. I'm terrible at building "pretty" things.

Knew that was coming….
Yes, if the addition was nothing but air (no land).

Minecraft is in meters not feet.
I would prefer if you posted meters.
Does it matter?
1 meter = 1 block
1 foot = 1 block
It doesnt really matter....
