Wow minecraft looks dumb. Its just a game about blocks...and it looks so ugly...
who ever plays this is retarded...
I let my girlfriend play for the first time and she only played for 20mins and said some of the funniest things.
First of all this game isn't any where close to real
Me : Its a fantasy game
If you punched a tree in real life that many times you would die!
Me : Oh really c:
who ever bought this needs help...
Me : I'm sorry you feel that way
Next day
recently played minecraft 1 hour ago on her account...
Victory is mines...
Anyways whole point, i think if not all but some of us has said minecraft was stupid at one point right?
What was your first thoughts?
My friend showed me MineCraft during Alpha 1.1.2. My first reaction was somewhere along the lines of "This game could be pretty sweet". I kept playing classic the next day and I loooved it.
no.... I never thought that, since the way I got into minecraft was due to my cousin playing it as well telling me about it. He of course thought that way. Me it was the more I watched the more I liked about it. So my first impression was watching him play the game. I never even heard of minecraft before that...><
I for one usually play a good portion of games on the PC, and it is only in the recent months that I was given an xbox 360. So still getting use to everything of it.
So not everyone thought that. Of course my cousin doesn't truly play anymore, but mainly because of the blockyness I guess I really don't know, as every time I seem to bring up the game; He mentions that wouldn't it be nice if it was on a specific engine that would make it more realistic...i.e. less blocky and more depth...O_o
I like minecraft for what it is, even if it isn't realistic in a sense. It is a simple game, which is what I like about it. To be more realistic would make it less simple...>.>

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Never. Some years ago, someone posted a small one minute video on a forum I admin for. Watched it, loved the look of it, asked the person what the name of the game was, googled it, & Bought it the next day. Blind purchase much?
i hate it when someone's excuse for not liking a game is "this game is so unrealistic. this game is not even close to being real."
well, yes, that's because it's a VIDEO GAME. i recently got into a cod/halo debate with some kid and he said "halo is unrealistic, i stopped playing that game when i was a kid." GRR.
okay.
rant over.
minecraft is awesome, by the way. realistic or not.
although i am guilty of thinking "what the hell kind of game is this?" when i first saw it.
For me, at first I barely knew anything about minecraft, then well over a year ago, I was told about it by my friends, after a while, I eventually watched youtube videos of it, by various people, Like the yogscast, mincecraftwb, unberhaxornova and a few other, I decided to try the game, as soon as I did I was hooked for life.
Also, In recent times my brother and sister have both said, "That game doesn't look fun", but about 4 months ago, my brother ended up playing it on the xbox at a friends house and he started, and then last week my sister played it for the first time with my brother and I, both were hooked instantly.
I have never thought it was dumb or stupid, but can understand how some can think that do to the graphics. A friend and I joke all the time that Minecraft would be such an awesome game if it weren't so blocky. =)

Key thing said there, the graphics. For most that definitely raised the skeptic flag. I was shown the tablet version near the beginning of this year with the added explanation that, "it's a game where you dig tunnels and monsters come out at night." I chopped and dug for a few minutes, passed the tablet back, and remember thinking, 'whatever floats your boat'.
Curiosity got the best of me though, and soon I was searching the net for more information and possibly even a demo. I was in luck and found a site, no longer open, that provided a version intended for demo purposes. I became hooked after successfully killing my first creeper. My eyes mist up a little thinking about that creeper...
Honestly, i thought it was "just another game". At first. Two years ago, my son started begging for MC for PC. This past spring, after watching over his shoulder in fascination far too often, he taught me how to play MC on my laptop offline, but i am slow on the PC because of my arthritis - i couldn't keep up with survival and died, well, more than a lot, less than all the time. Shortly after that, my husband, son, and daughter went in together to buy an Xbox and MC for Xbox so i could play MC more comfortably. Ever since, every single person who's played MC here has been hooked. Including my own sister who generally hates gaming and thinks it all a waste of time. I look forward to getting more of the same/similar MC PC updates for the Xbox. Especially item frames. It must be awesome to have a working clock on the wall. Haha.

~My problem is a simple one: I'm severely allergic to stupid.~
I can tell you, I was leary at first but the game definitely grew on me. Even my father who strictly plays Call of Duty and Borderlands 2 has come over to the dark side. He was so against it just because it was not a shooter and had no action. His first night he was mobbed by 4 creepers, there is your action for ya.
In all honesty, graphics is very low on my list. Playability and enjoyment trump all when it comes to playing video games for me. Minecraft is too damn fun and addicting for me to worry about it being just blocks now.
I remember...My school's biggest geek is talking to my best friend about minecraft & world of Warcraft. Had no idea what minecraft was at the time. Later that day we had a free period in computers & he had it on his USB. He started playing & I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, but something stupid for sure. I wanted to try anyhow so he transferred it to my USB. Started playing it, took me 10 minutes to figure out the graphics & when I did I started crafting. Lets just say I fell in love with the game but couldn't get in on PC so I had to wait 5 months for it to come out. I bought minecraft for Xbox the morning it came out before school. This game is unbeatable!!!
i was skeptical but i gave it a chance... and now here i am. my friend though thought it was stupid when i showed it to him, comparing it it what most others who've never played do... legos.
when he did play it for the first time though the first thing out of his mouth was "heh, im pokin' holes in the ground!" and that was it. he now goes on accidental 3 or 4 hour binges every few days.
I first saw Minecraft in a small article in GameInformer. That had to be back in 2009 or 2010. I was immediately hooked and I've been playing Minecraft ever since. I own it on both the PC and Xbox 360 and have never once regretted buying both versions.
I played xbox with a guy who would not stop talking about Minecraft for about the year I played with him, deleted him the day it came out since he wouldn't stop bothering me about buying it. While later I got some extra money and thought "what the h e ll I'll guy it,". Playing since then.
OP's post was me exactly. My girlfriend even overheard me saying it. I saw my brother playing the demo on xbox, and he started talking about it. wanting me to get him some tokens so he could buy it. (he's 11)
so, i download the demo too, and bought it for him. and me. lol. my girlfriend starts laughing because i'm playing it that day, and asks, "didn't you say it looked stupid?" yep. caught. lol
about 1 week later, i had my little brother and sister spend the weekend with us, and while us 3 were playing, my gf said, "alright, give me a controller."
hooked. it was like a virus spreading through my family. I guess my brother had originally heard about MC from a friend at school.

Lol, reading these posts, reminds me that I had bought the PC version for my daughter back aoround 2010, and when she started playing it I do actually remeber thinking how lame it looked, I was the typical action RPG and shooter guy.
Well , I lasted about a year in fact, until one day I was actually bored with everything game wise. so I thought I would have a look at MC on my daughter's acount. Within a week I had my own account and as soon as it came out on Xbox I switched.
Still play shtooters and RPGs , but I always find myself back on MC.
.LOVE IT!
I first learned about Minecraft when I saw a video on Cracked.com of someone who had created a scale model of Earth. I was stupefied, and figured the game must be pretty cool, but my computer wouldn't have been able to run it. I found out a month after it was released on X-Box, and saw my nephew playing it, and figured I'd give it a shot. I've gotten more out of a $20 downloadable game than I did out of any other $65 game. I am officially addicted. I own it for XBox, iPad, and when funds allow for it, I will own it for my new iMac.
Never thought it was stupid, I've learned to judge things on more than appearance, but I never thought I'd be THIS wrapped up in it.

Needless to say, I've been playing that same Lego-cloning-ass-load of crap game since.
