I think that the main problem of single player & even multiplayer "LAG" is that we don't have many options. Example:The xbox does not have many game play changing options, unlike pc has "Particles, Render Distance, (using Optifine) grass detail, animations. Though with these settings off minecraft isn't exactly the same, but if you were hosting a server and had people join who complained that it was lagging badly or you were about to detonate 1,000,000 TNT to get rid of a mountain wouldn't you turn off or down some of those settings to go towards your server or your game?
Toss it around. : )

If you'd like. I'll take you to a special place in town. A place where all your wishes come true.
The problem with TNT is its radius of lag, if you are close to a massive explosion your xbox will freeze for an amount of time depending on the size of the bomb, but if you are far away you will most likely be fine, however the only time I ever detonate massive TNT bombs is when I am host, this could change if you are not host.
Yes and yes. The only lag I've noticed is placing block, vanish, reappear. Fairly quick though and I was the guest. I'm sure it had to do with connection and not the game itself.
Only Lag I have ever experienced is playing on an American server giving my location but other than that it is fine, better than when I play on PC but that could be because I play on a laptop and my processor is .
People in my lobby lag and I lag in peoples lobbys. I never do in other games though, I just feel the connectivity strength is a lot lower in minecraft.

That really sounds like it's the connection on your side.
I set off 8 stacks of tnt at the same time and didn't notice even a little bit of lag (okay, for like half a second my framrate dipped but that was it)

Have you ever used TNT or redstone?
