In addition to McGizmo's suggestion... Craft some shears. Then, take shears to mineshafts. Use the shears to mine the cobwebs, which causes them to drop as string. Craft string into wool.
An easy way that may or may not work is walk away from your area some bit, then go back and as those chunks are rendering, there should be more animals spawning.
This second suggestion doesn't really address the constant supply question you've posed; but I thought I'd throw it in here, too.
One of the now more reliable sources of wool to make a bed near the start of the game for me has been raiding the lampposts in the villages. Some of the villages don't spawn with lampposts, but those that have them often have 3 of them, which is just enough for a bed. If there are no sheep in sight but you're lucky enough to spot a village, it can make the difference between respawning out in the open or in a safe space if you do happen to die early on in the game. It can also allow you to minimize the number of hostile mobs that spawn on that first night.
Thanking you everyone, that has helped me a heap. Just finished constructing the trap within the Mineshaft but are you able to make you're own Mob spawner?

Yes and no. You can make a mob grinder anywhere...but you have to really work at it to make it a spider one. Traditional grinders spawn all kinds of mobs. You WILL get spiders in that, but not all the time. you can lower the roof over the spawning pads to limit the spawns to spiders only...as I recall...but spiders, in general, are a headache to deal with as they can scale walls. There are youtube videos that detail the process, and how to control the situation so that you can sit and soak up string. On the flip side, you get WAYYY more spawns from an actual mob spawner...so finding a cave spider spawner would be ideal as they would quickly generate more spiders as the old ones die.

Well well I didn't know this. Its sounds like you can control spawn inside your grinder with the right size of blocks.
Endermen Need 3 block Height size
Spiders not too sure...I think they can walk through 1 by x
Or that could be cave spiders...
Either way making a spider grinder would be nice
