Do you like bonus chests? Do you use them? When?

I usually use bonus chests, especially on maps I intend only to be on hard. Helps be build a shelter on day 1, and not starve to death (usually has some form of food).

Whats the best thing you've gotten from a bonus chest?

For me...bread. maybe a stone pickaxe, not sure though about that one

The bonus chest give you time to explore your world while using anything from it. I usually destroy the chest and take the torches too. I wander down the first ravine and get more coal and stone using the pickaxes. If im lucky Ill find iron too. Day 1 iron tools. Then I climb the highest mountain and survey the land for a good spot to make my first house. If night is comingnefore then, I dig a single hole and wait it out, day 2 explore!.

Best thing I received was the stone axe, allowed me to chop down a lot of wood without going through the hassel of making a wooden one then getting cobble stone yada yada yada. The bonus chest just makes it a little bit easier.

I always check bonus chest when starting a new map....getting than stone pick axe is all I really want, maybe some bread...I really hate using a wooden pick axe.

The best thing about the chest is that it can help offset day 1 hunger issues. For some reason, I've had plenty of seeds not generate any villages. Yes, you CAN kill off some cows and pigs...but they aren't coming back anytime soon. Unless you win the seed lottery...you might be in for a long wait on wheat. I've also been unlucky enough to get only 4 seeds among like...20 grass before. I guess the big thing for me is having food in the chest so that I have regen on for my first nights fighting to earn some bonemeal. It also means you can explore more of the map before night 1...maybe finding a village. Worse case scenario is that you dig a small hole in a wall and use the chest torches to light it for one night. At least with all of that, you can meal up some mushrooms in a worst case situation and eat.

They are decent, makes the first day more focused on where then having to scour for the first bit only to realize it is night or raining on the first day...><

i use bonus chests at beginning. my best chest had 1 pork(raw) 2 apples, 1 stone axe and pick, 7 wood, + if you didnt notice if you loot and destroy the chest, exit and enter game u will get a new chest with stuff

pork is very rarely coming OR i was lucky to get one, maybe it was a bread, i dont remember its been a long time, as much as i remember pork.

i like it but i dont use it.. if that makes sense

I always use it. The bonus chest allows me to focus on something more important, like a first house or an underground mob grinder. Always good to have a good set of materials first off.
