I been playing this game, I got pretty far I think. But I don't know what else to do. I made a portal to the nether I got some diamond tools. What else is there to do?
I'd say start to build up your own community so that you have a long term goal as well as when everything looks nice you are more comfortable in playing and find yourself constantly immersed in thinking of new ideas of what to build.
Maybe I need to play in some other peoples worlds to get an idea of what's going on. I have found caves ravines n all that, even did some strip mining for diamonds. Today I found a pig spawner and a chest with Sattle. Put it on a pig then he ran out in the water and I had to kill him then lost the sattle. Bummed me out and turned off the game. Basically I'm stuck at mining and stacking up minerals and what not. I play on peaceful. Every time I turn it on easy creepers my up and then blow me to texas. So I play on peaceful only. How do i farm? Does anyone want to play with me? I'm trying to join a big world n do big things for the people. How are people playing RPGs and villagers and ? I feel like people on here are playing a different game when I read the thread titles and posts. Someone bring me up to par like tiger woods on the 17th hole. Amen. Bless u
It takes 2 hits with a diamond sword. 5 with a bow(that may have changed in 1.8, haven't played around with those yet). Basically, let the Creeper come up to you...when he starts to hiss, hit and run backwards till he stops. He will come back at you, hit again and collect the gun powder.
At night, you can look out your house and see skeletons. Sleep in your bed, and when the Zombies and Skeletons burn up, go around and collect the arrows and bones they drop. You can build up your arrows, make a bow and you are ready to go.
When you spawn in on day 1, you need to acquire supplies to build a shelter and hide out before night comes.
On day 2, you reinfoce your position. build torches, moats, walls, etc to keep creepers away from your house.
Monsters only spawn in dark places (which night time is dark). So if you can sleep in a bed right at dusk, before it gets too dark, monsters won't spawn and be around in the morning (like creepers).
If you can light up the area every 12 blocks (in grid of torches), that will also reduce the chances of monsters spawning in that area at night.
the whole point of the game is for YOU to work out a strategy to keep yourself safe AGAINST the monsters. That means working defensively, and being prepared offensively (weapons to fight with).
Personally, I don't carry a weapon in the game. I can avoid the monsters or prevent them from spawing in my area reasonably well (it's not perfect, as there appears to always be a slim chance of a monster spawning, even in lit areas).
I haven't figured that one out too well myself, but I've found it can be fun trying. Since this most recent update, they may explode but they probably won't actually kill you since the hearts you loose will regenerate if you can keep yourself fed.
As wolfeuK said, it's a game that becomes what you make it and, as a result, it doesn't have to be about slaying the monsters to be fun. If you've noticed, there aren't really any "levels" (at least yet), no Game Over messages (since you can always just respawn after dying), and no real end to the game.
My friend's kid gets a lot of his inspiration from YouTube as to what sorts of thing he can build. There are also lots of different "Let's Play" series and tutorials on you tube that can help with everything from pig riding to farming to a whole bunch of other Minecraft stuff. For fun, you might try also building in some things your character can just play on - like a parkour course, rollercoaster park (using minecarts) or a waterslide park. There are some videos on YouTube that give some ideas for this as well. Then, you can even invite some of your local friends over to your world and have a parkour contest or a day just enjoying the rides you've built.
Oh snap.....need to build up my arrows and have some target practice.
Iv'e also noticed that if you place gravel and re-dig it you can get flint. Corect me if im wrong though, but its always helped with my production of arrows.

It should....I can get a bunch in caves though too, but I have done the re-dig in 1.7. It was easier to build up feathers when the zombies dropped them....but I've got enough eggs that I can slaughter some chickens.
Will have to check out some of the people on Youtube Ana referenced. Might learn something myself!

Like what many people on here have said. I would suggest getting off peacefull and playing on easy or normal to start with.
When you have to start worrying about creepers and zombies and you have to think about your food supply it adds much more to the game.
Other than that start mining some redstone and building some simple contraptions like:
Mob Grinder
Cobble Generator
Hidden Doors
Automatic Bridges
Auto Wheat / Cacti & Sugar Cane farms.
Or why not start to connect to different parts of your world by using Minecarts and tarcks or and EATS road.
You can search youtube for tutorials for all of teh above.
Hmm how do you get it in only one hit? anytime I hit a creeper with arrows, even when holding the aim for full power, it always takes me 2 arrows to kill a creeper, even if I hit them right face!
I think I saw something on youtube, you jump and on the way down you shoot. Sounds like it takes skill.

You've missed the point of the tactical exercise.
