I was wondering what you prefer to play on when it comes to Survival Games.
Hardcore
Hardcore mode is basically Hard but with some added twists such as eating 3 times a day, mining at night, etc etc.
It is a mode that only a few can handle, and those people deserve an award . . . like a cookie
Easy
Easy mode is just simple survival played on Easy or Peaceful. There really are no rules partaining what you can and can't do. It's for those people who just wanna kick back and take on MC life one block at a time . . slowly . . .
So MC Users, which do you prefer? Hardcore or Easy?
Used to play on Easy, but kicked it up to Normal and honestly it hasn't mattered. I think you just deal. The only reason I don't have it on Hard is because I'm using my world as a hostile laboratory I spend a lot of time building devices and machines but I think it's more fun to do it in Survival on Normal than Superflat Creative Peaceful.
I prefer to play on easy. Skeletons and spiders are easier to handle cause they don't take away a third of your health. I also find that mobs are less scary to me.
i play on hard on PC and Xbox .. there's no challenge any other way .. seriously the only 2 tins that can kill you are
1, stupidity ((falling into lava and jumping off cliffs , i do both frequently when tired lol ))
2. ninja creepers who sneak up behind when your building...
other than that it's all easy.
The difficulty level only has 2 differences:
the hostiles inflice more damage at the harder levels. Not a factor if you don't get attacked
the creepers' trigger is actually EASIER on hard, because the proximity requirement is shorter. On easy, once you tickle a creeper at 2 blocks distance, he will go boom. On hard, he MUST be within one block for him to go boom.

That was making me wander about that. That makes easy hard and hard easy..O_o when it concerns creepers... Which makes no sense why they did that...I don't see the logic in it for doing it that way...><
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
My preference for game play is Easy, but with some Hardcore elements. I agree with Wolfeuk that the term "hardcore" means deleting the world after dying once; which I frequently do. If it's a seed I'm really enjoying, I might extend that to allow myself to die three times before calling "game over."
The difference between Easy and Hard is really the number of hits required to kill a hostile mob. Since my reflexes have slowed with age, I do find the lesser numbers of hits required to kill a mob helps to make playing with the mobs on more enjoyable (although I'll have to give what Janx posted about creepers some consideration). Placing the block on the inside of the door to your house is an easy way to prevent zombies from entering when they break the door down... so that little difference is not really much of a factor.
When I'm building extensively and, therefore, concentrating hard on what I'm building and I don't want to be bothered with fighting off mobs and now remembering to eat, I prefer to use Peaceful mode (if I still feel like mining for stuff) or Creative mode (if I don't).
I think the best way to get long-term enjoyment from the game is vary the way you play it by utilizing all of its different features and modes from time to time.
i see no reason to play on anthing above easy. taking 5 whacks, instaed of 3 isnt my idea of "hardcore," just tedious and a waste of my time. Creepers are the only real trouble and they are the same no matter what: deadly.
falling dmg is the dmg i take the most... again, not affected by set-diffculty. same with ehn i forget to eat or come up for air. none of these are affected by difficulty. only how many whacks an enemy takes.
to me, claiming hardcore-is-better is like a speed-walker making fun of running... its just... yeeeaaaa.

It was definitely a backwards sounding discovery. I imagine the devs thought that shortening the range meant make it harder, but the reality is that it is easier to hit and back away from a creeper on hard to disable his trigger, than on easy.
With that in mind, you can attack a creeper through a 1 block peek-hole on hard and kill him with no risk. Wheras on Easy, if you are seperated by only 1 block, the creeper can still trigger.
also, be advised that the monster line of sight range is 16 for most MOBs. Ghasts are 100, and enderman are 64 blocks. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mobs
The thing I dont get is easy that has 6 creepers spawn at once. No way is that easy. Easy should be the 10 year olds can play with mobs without checking the mobs creeping up behind them.

Hey there, age is no factor. My friend's 7-year-old is absolutely awesome at killing creepers... multiples of them, even with just his bare hand. Easy, normal, hard - it matters not to him. When we play together, he's my protector!
You missed the point...easy isnt easy. Its just less feeding than hardcore. Age is about how responsible and mature they play. Your 7 year old obviously played alot of video games and is used to playing. When was how much you eat a factor for how hard a game is.

No, I don't think I did miss the point. I certainly know that Easy is not easy... dying regularly at the hands of creepers. My friend's kid, however, is also a 7 year old who can play very maturely - can manage his hunger bar, can design terrific builds (has a great eye for balance and blending of different materials), and manages the game's resources very well. He has also learned how to do some basic map reading and orienteering (something he didn't know before). He also looks after the weaker players (like me) and he's even been learning to share his "stuff" bettter than when the game first came out. The even younger one is also learning a lot in this direction and even recently noticed that my hunger bar was getting seriously depleted and game me some food to save my life. Yes, this family is video game savvy (their father being an avid gamer); but I like to think it has been the time that me and his parents have spent actively teaching them how to play a game with other people well that is making the big difference. Little kids come in all levels of game playing ability... and so do teens... and so do adults... and so do seniors. Age is not really the determining factor.

I don't believe that second one at all. I've fought a creeper, and he detonated with me not even being within the blast radius (don't say lag, I was the host), and did no damage to me. Now if you said 1 block within where you hit him, maybe. Maybe.

If I play with a few other friends then they usually have it set on normal though but it does not bother me.
