I've easily put in over a month working on a portal/puzzle/adventure map and would love to share it BUT I want to do it legally so I don't get in trouble. I think it would be a simple addition much like Black ops had downloadable user videos, pics, and game modes as well as many other games that also have this feature.
I'm thinking you allow each person to upload a map, from there it can be downloaded from the main menu to another xbox. Then the person who uploaded it can take it down and put a newer version up if they wish or upload more. You could even have a Minecraft world spotlight every week that gives a brief review of the most played level.
It's not illegal to share gamesaves. It's just against ToS. Which means your Live account could be banned, which is extremely rare in cases of gamesave modding. You're just as likely to be banned for no reason at all as you are modding gamesave files. It does happen, but not often.
Either way, I'm so confident 4J will add world sharing, at some point, that I would bet money on it. Just be patient, they're focusing on the updates right now. After we meet PC's official 1.2.3 version, 4J will have more time to invest in exclusive features.

If it's against the ToS how did Bungie manage to do this with forge maps? You could share maps either by using Bungie Favorites or upload a map with your file share. I'm pretty sure 4J will find a way to do this though

Forge maps and file shares were built into Halo. It's an officially supported feature. In Minecraft, it's not. So doing it breaks the ToS.
To share a map on Minecraft, you have to take the save off of your Hard Drive, give it to someone, put it into a modding program, and they change the profile ID to match their account. That counts as modding.
spent a couple days playing on a survival server, building up a town and all that... a dozen or so others also spent days, maybe weeks building up their homes and whatnot...
one day, i login to xbl... host is no longer on my friends list.
check our subreddit... turns out, the host deleted everyone from xbl, maybe changed his profile name, and deleted his reddit username...
so, that map is pretty much gone.
if we could share maps, everyone in our little community could take turns hosting with a simple file transfer, thus ensuring the longevity of our community builds.
after this experience, I'll have a hard time investing any significant time in joining a community and building a city and whatnot because everything relies on the host.
It's just that there are so many threads... and 4J has already said long ago that they want this as well. You know, if you keep flogging the already willing horse, he eventually gets his back up and refuses to go... just saying.
says something like 'featured downloadable maps' which wouldn't really help the situation i encountered recently...
sharing maps between users at their discretion is a different matter than 'featured downloadable maps'
The comment that 4J made originally that indicated they liked the idea of sharing maps was ages and ages ago, not just at Minecon.
There are many reasons why 4J may not be able to bring us full map sharing like "yesterday"... For one, people should consider that there are three completely different corporate entities involved in bringing Minecraft to the XBox. Mojang (as creator of the original game), Microsoft (as owner of the Live network, among other things XBox), and 4J (the company contracted to rewrite the code in a format compatable with the XBox). It may well be that their contractual agreement with Mojang or Microsoft doesn't allow them the ability to OK map sharing unless a change can be negotiated in the agreement. If it is something like that, than those sorts of negotiations can often take some time to work out... a little patience?
What im wondering is why total miner can actually save or if you want share it and thats an indie game but minecraft xbox 360 eddition has quite a long time to meet the pc version so if you want to build maps i reckon you guys should do what i did and buy the pc version
1.Its not illegal to download or share maps.
2Its so much bette with the features
Anyway thanks for reading this comment and just think im new round here but im kinda getting used toit cause i was on tech game for a while
The thing about that is, total miner as you said is an indie game. 4J stated themselves at Minecon that the problem they currently have with map sharing is the size of some world files. Unlike Total Miner Forge, Minecraft files are pretty big. Which could lead so some pretty long downloading times.
lol.. sorry, i didn't realize I was implying a sense of urgency about this... but i think the point of this is:
in the thread that sums up minecon, it is stated that the devs are looking into 'featured downloadable maps'
which is great. sure, but the host/map issue makes it very difficult for one to invest any considerable amount of time in building on a hosted world, as that host can bail at anytime for any number of reasons and take a world that many people have laboured over extensively with them.
solution: world sharing.
i do acknowledge that this isn't something that would happen over night (if at all), and would require some time to sort out logistically, legally, etc.

that is all.
Again, it's getting convoluted. The urgency was implied by the OP (who has been an active poster on this forum since I joined it and, therefore, must know about the number of threads requesting this). I agree with your arguments as to why map sharing is a good idea (no need to preach to the converted)... and 4J also indicated a long time ago that they also think it's a great idea. Implementation might take 4J some time... and we might have to go through a period of downloadable maps to test the waters first in order for them to convince the other parties to this deal that there is a business benefit to them to adopt the idea.
They could potentially charge a small bit of change to be given access to map sharing benefits, or simply have server hosting similar to Battlefield 3?
If you want to use it, go pay for it: It pretty much pays off in the long run, right?
Yes, It would be awesome if they implemented that on xbox 360.....But 4J studios said on the minecon 2012 panel that they are looking into having that feature

4J wants the ability to share maps as well and it's something they are looking into.

Curse Premiumstar wars 7. YES!
OT i definitely like this, as i have about 12 custom maps just for my friends that i could share. the way it sounds they are looking into it
Betting money, eh? Don't you know that betting and money are for immoral capitalist imperialists?

fair enough.
but, while i didn't really get any of this information first hand... the link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1579306-mcxbox-updates-from-minecon-2012/
says something like 'featured downloadable maps' which wouldn't really help the situation i encountered recently...

revived an old thread again..u mad bro..
