First things first, this is how I would like to see mods in minecraft. I know there are things Microsoft won't like and 4J Studios can't do, but this is my idea of a perfect way to implement mods into mincecraft.
Maybe a vote can be held by 4JSteve on the forums and we can vote for the next mod out of a list of the ones 4J has chosen. The vote would probably be kept up until the next mod comes out, then whichever has the most votes would immediately get started on and the vote would be posted again, brand new.
Mods are free and come in updates. Let me clarify because people are having touble. I would pay for mods, I would throw money at Microsoft and 4J and whoever for mods, but I would love it if they were free and came in updates.
Mods are compatible and won't screw eachother up.
Mods are added to a world when the world is created, via a checkbox that says "Mods" then when it's checked you can open a window with a list of mods you can put in, then you just check the box on all mods you want in that world.
They can't be taken out so no mod items and objects are left behind or destroied when the mod is taken out, and mods can't be added later because if the mod adds ores or structures then they would only appear in undiscovered parts of the world.
I know microsoft likes money (don't we all) and might want the mods to be DLC that we have to buy.
I know they can't technically be called "Mods", so call them "Add-ons" or something.
I know that this will divide 4J's time between regular minecraft updates to keep up with Mojang and mods, but they would get more love from us and I think it would be worth it.
They will actually be using mods ONLY as inspiration for ideas (probably). What happens in multiplayer if u have a mod on & your coplayer doesn't? So instead of separate paid add-ons we will (probably) get free ones in updates.

I dunno, what happens in every other game ever made when you have content another player doesn't have? They can't join. I doubt they're going to lose money just to avoid such a small issue.
4J as previously stated that they're going to take inspiration from mods and make DLC inspired by current and popular mods. So there will be DLC (paid) that will be inspired by popular PC mods, however they will not be free and they probably wont be exactly the same
I wouldn't mind paying for DLC (Mods) we're already getting legit updates so paying for a little more to add to the game is fine with me. As been said the Mods they hope to bring sometime will be inspired by existing ones and will be made by the developers a little compensation for their efforts should be rewarded. As for compatibility issue I see no reason why they can't make it where everyone has the DLC it's just locked so a player who doesn't have said Mod is still able to participate in another world. You can also make it to where the content is there for them to use like a Trial Version but the player is unable to save their game. Again this gives the player the ability to participate on other worlds where their friends have said Mod and gives the player a chance to test out the Mod. I just think it's unrealistic to expect DLC like this to be free, if you really have an issue with it then you're playing on the wrong platform.
So you want more free stuff? The updates we're getting are essentially free mods. Appreciate what you're already getting.

Not really. The updates are parts of the original game that we are garunteed to get at some point in the future. Mods are deviations from the original game not intended to be included by Mojang. So.... Not the same thing. And You mistook what I said. I want free mods because this is my "perfect world" idea. If they can be free, I would like them to be free, which made sense, I think.

I will admit that Minecraft is definitely a unique case. No other 360 game has gotten the same kind of special treatment. But, I don't think 4J are legally binded to updating the game up to PC's 1.2.3 version for free. I think it's being done to influence initial sales and keep the fans happy. (Look at how well that's working.) Either way, we're still getting free content that alters or "mods" how the game functions compared to the version pre-update. I guess you could call them "official" mods. We could sit here arguing about terminology all day, but when it comes right down to it, we're all still getting free stuff. 4J are doing one hell of a job, and with how much non-profit (sort of) work they've been doing for these updates I would gladly throw them a few dollars for mod-like DLC. For their presence in the community alone, which is much higher than most devs, I support them fully, no matter what they choose to do.
F*ck yeah, blind loyalty!
Ideally yes, it would be nice if they released free mod-like DLC. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. I highly doubt they will do something like this. Especially since their sales will be dwindling by the time they're done working on updates.
Dont forget they'll probably also release mod packs. Many seperate mods would be bundled into one DLC. So we wouldnt be paying just for Mo'animals or whatever you'll be paying for a pack of mods more akin to Tekkit or Technic.
And as I said before they're taking inspiration from the mods and what not, not actually making copies of the mods and putting them on xbox.
I hate to douse the hopes of anyone holding out for free DLC but it's not going to happen. 4J said along time ago that updates will be free, DLC won't be.
It's probably part of the agreement between Microsoft and Mojang. In order to keep our updates free, all DLC must be charged for.

I don't think a vote is gonna happen because, in the overall scheme of things, it just wouldn't be that meaningful and has the potential to **** a lot of people off if their "pick" of mods doesn't make the grade. We've seen inklings of that in some of the arguments over mods that have been waged on the forums so far.
In all likelihood, 4J will pick the mods they feel will "sell" the best when packaged as DLC. I would also think they would ensure that whatever DLC they write are compatible to a reasonable degree with each other if they are intended to be "in the game" at the same time. How they will handle people who haven't bought the DLC wanting to play in world's where the DLC has been used is an unknown. There are a few different ways they could deal with it.
A great deal is going to depend on whether or not the XBox 360 itself can really handle/process much more of a game than the main Minecraft 1.2.3 version. Currently, they seem to struggling with fitting even 1.8.2 onto the system without causing some of the systems to crash. The recommended workaround of removing signs from old worlds just to avoid them crashing because the system cannot process the textual data would seem to be a sign that processing power/RAM is a factor in at least some of the crashes reported. Why can't we just wait to see what happens with the 1.2.3 update before getting any hopes up about particular PC mods being added to the game?
Exactly.
Updates ARE free mods!
I don't see a difference between the two.
lol what? an update is an update. every game gets them? they're nothing like mods.
mods er add ons, whatever, are modifications to the original game.
we're getting the original game... just at a later time than pc. sadface.
anyway, i would love to see mods on the 360. and if they were actually FREE?
hell yeah. who doesn't like free stuff.

Also, I rarely see a 360 game with a single update, aside from a bugfix patch. And I have never seen a game that receives regular updates like Minecraft does.

I know there are a few, but the only one I can think of is The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. It got free content through Title Updates a while back. Horseback combat, kill cams, and a few other things.

Yeah, but there are no 360 titles, that I know of, getting updates like MCXBLA is. And even when devs do release some free content to a game, (barely any compared to Minecraft) like with Skyrim, it's a very rare occurrence.

Microsoft new the game would have been dead if it stayed on it's initial version until paid DLC/updates came out. They also knew that no one would pay for updates. At least not enough to make them a viable option right away.

Of course I do. My computer can't handle minecraft let alone mods. But this is the MCXbox forum so we're talking about Xbox.
