I posted this as a reply in the bug thread but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. From what I can gather it appears that after 1.8.2. the area around my main building which I have planted copious spruce trees has suddenly been changed from what I believe was a forest biome to a tundra biome. It has (in my opinion) completely ruined months worth of work.
It appears that it is all centered around the spruce trees. These spruce trees were placed by myself and were nowhere near the area I've been building in until I placed them. This area was completely free from snow and ice (as was the majority of my map). After 1.8.2. I noticed a slowly creeping field of ice on the ocean around my main area and then this evening suddenly snow all over the entire area. The biome seems to have been completely changed from what I believe was a forest to now a tundra. This has completely wrecked several water based structures I have built as well as made a substancial area of the map snow covered which I find aesthetically displeasing and a complete inconvenience.
I believe it has something to do with the spruce trees as this issue is only present in an even radius around where I have planted spruce trees. Possibly 4j made the game recognize groups of spruce trees as tundra biome, I'm not sure. In any case this needs to be fixed as if anyone else has this problem I'm sure they have seen as much damage as I have from this bug. If the problem can be caused I'm sure it can be found and fixed. If it cannot be repaired I (and possibly several others) have lost months worth of work simply because 4j did not do proper testing.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I have (attempted to) include some pictures to give an idea of what has been happening. The original picture is outdated and I leveled the area quite some time ago. Also, this screenshot was taken before the snow appeared. I will be taking a new screenshot ASAP to show the extent of the change as of now.
The change in biomes is actually very common now with the update. My spawn is probably a good 100+ blocks away from any tundra biome, yet I now have a very wintery spawn location that once housed many regular trees (forgot the name for it). Perhaps it has to do with your planting of those specific trees, but I believe it's just random biome designation.
I dont see what your problem is. Snow happens in real life over areas like this. One minute free flowing water the next solid ice. To me its just a picture in spring/summer and a picture in winter.
Happening in my world too, rather the opposite, a HUGE snow/tundra biome is suddenly turning into a plains biome, snow is melting off and its raining, and a plains area is snowing...I just think it's wierd..and all this on a pre-existing world. I think that the generator is messed up.
oh and it is taiga, not tundra... Tundra was one of the biomes that were taken out. Usually tundra was the one that had huge snowy treeless mountain ranges...and sometimes plains like...mainly hilly though in my experience.
And yes the update effects all worlds in this manner, due to the fact that some biomes were taken out while putting some more in.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

The problem is that Minecraft doesn't have seasons like real life and the snow and ice covering my map does not come and go with seasons it is stuck there permanently when the biome did not originally designate snow.
Biome changes are not a bug from what i have read. Its a shame to lose all your hard work and i do feel very sorry for you If your hoping they will fix it... i dont think they even could
I feel the solution would be very simple. Make sure that if a biome is removed and replaced it is done so by replacing it with a biome that is at least similar to the one you removed. Think of it as three (basic) major biomes as far as weather is concerned; rain, snow, neither. If you replace a biome make sure it fits in the same weather category as the last. Basically it seems i've lost months worth of irreplaceable work because they decided they didn't need to make sure a rainy weather biome didn't turn into a snow landscape.
This has been posted many times, also taking one picture at night and the other during the day for comparison is just stupid.
The comparison was to show the ice, not a comparison of the additional features. You can see the ice in one and not in the other very clearly and so my intention of posting the screenshots was accomplished. If you were comparing the color of an apple to the color of a grape you would make the distinguishment that one is red and the other is purple not that one grows on a tree and the other on a vine, you're comparing the color and that point is accomplished with the method of comparison (being looking at the color). You can see the absense of the ice in one screenshot and the presense in the other. Being overcritical of details that don't matter to the point being made is stupid.

I know I already said this but this makes sense that some biomes would be removed but there are 3 basic weather patterns; snow, rain, neither. It would have taken very minimal effort to make sure that if one is removed that it replaces itself with a similar weather format not just a random biome. While very farfetched they could have also had a simple menu at the world load that says "blah blah blah biome was removed what would you like to replace it with" and then have a list of biomes of which you can choose to replace it with. That way you leave players the ultimate choice over what happens to their hard work. As you can see the area I've built while probably unimpressive to a lot of people was a lot of hard work for myself and I was very happy with what I accomplished. Now it has all been turned into a white lifeless snow landscape and has caused many of my water based features to be completely useless.
And thus you meet the generation changes 1.82 brings. Be prepared because 1.23 will do this too.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

Yeah. Call me old fashioned but I believe updates should benefit players. I feel it would have been relatively simple to have stopped this from happening especially since they learned from the PC update and knew this was going to happen but for some reason were able to reason that it was okay to ruin peoples' creations even though keeping those creations intact is the entire point of the game. All it would have required was instead of randomly picking a new biome when one is removed have a miniscule more intelligent of a system that at least makes sure the weather pattern is the same. I would be just as annoyed if I had built in a desert biome that suddenly started raining or visa versa.
It isn't a bug. It's a change to the biome code which effects the entire game. Any pre-1.8.2 update world will have this happen with every biome. The most noticeable being taiga biomes because it snows.
I feel your pain. My main world, the one that sucked up inordinate amounts of time is now a snow biome pretty much everywhere. I'm still trying to decide how much of a problem this is for me. It's very inconvenient in my harbor and park areas as all of that water is slowly freezing over.
