Well I've been gone for quite a while, been caught up in a lot of stuff. I thought I'd get a little bit of my thought's out about everything going on so far. Last time I was here was a couple weeks before 1.8.2 came out. I've been gone ever since then, and luckily missed all of the "How do you sprint?" threads and whatnot. Anyways, here's my opinions:
Skin Pack 3 was horrific, and I hope 4J makes their own skins from now on. If you didn't know, apparently 4J got some different people to make the skins, Army of Trolls I think their names were? I don't know, but they looked painful and disgusting.
1.8.2 was very satisfying, yet buggy. Not complaining, 1.8.2 was a huge excitement, but it would be a lot more addictive if there were no bugs.
The Halloween skin pack looked better, and I found it very thoughtful of 4J to donate the profits to charity. I began to realize right from the start of playing the 360 edition that 4J was a compassionate and caring game company that cares about the fans' opinions. This charity skin pack was when 4J truly proved to me that they were the 'good guys' in the gaming industry.
I'm awaiting excitedly to hear more about the exclusive add-ons that 4J may be considering. I know the changes won't be too drastic like the ones in my thread for example, but I know the changes will be small, yet incredibly useful.
The threads about sprinting weren't all that bad, honestly. What was horrible were the 100+ (not exaggerating) threads whining about how 1.8.2 completely ruined the game/their old worlds. You thought it was bad after 1.7.3 was released? What you saw was nothing, I mean nothing, compared to the week-long sh*t storm we experienced after the latest update.
Most of all, everyone was throwing a hissy fit about biomes shifting on old worlds. It has been known this would happen for nearly a year now. If people would take a couple minutes to do a little research, they would know this. But nope, instead they make their first post a big whiney thread, showing the rest of the community how retarded they truly are.
i wasn't really a fan of the skins packs, but did enjoy #2, as that is when they had more female skins and some other more interesting ones in that one... #3 and the halloween ones I just flat out didn't really like... However what I did like of the halloween and the only thing was what you mentioned, it going to charity. That is always a plus.
I really didn't mind the change from 1.7.3 to 1.8.2, but I hestitate working with my old worlds much since then. Mainly because of the things to come and quite of few of the bugs, most of which I do not experience.
So I did play a little on new world creation, as well a bit in the new creative mode. Mainly stylizing the villages around the maps I made. I usually have a bad habit of having many worlds, if that is a bad habit. But hey that is what USB storage devices are for no?
Anyway mostly after exploring many generated worlds, the only thing I didn't like was how often i end up with water maps, if not maps with too much water for my taste. One the plus side I did manage to find several suitable worlds so it worked out smoothly. There is always something in the map generation I like eventually, just have to keep trying, which is what I did. I just glad I have the patience enough to keep doing it till I did find one or two. In this case more than that really.
What I mainly don't like in the update is something I will not use "superflat". I understand there are some that enjoy and have been waiting for this. It just is not for me. I have a tendency to build with the terrain, however if there is no terrain to build with then there really is not many ideas for me to do. The reason why that option is useless for me. My creative comes to me through the landscape of the terrain generation, which is what I love about the game, even if there were better ones prior to the update. There is always one to be found.
Now that creative is out I do enjoy having some worlds with that, as well having some, mostly my primary world before the update, in survival too. So I get to utilize both modes when ever I want or am in the mood for.
On the note for upcoming things, well I'll be patiently playing till each comes out. When it is time they split ways I do hope they consider getting quite a few things if not just some that are in the 1.3.2 update. I always am quite curious what they will come up for the game that they thought up themselves, even if it was inspired by something that is on the pc. It is nice to see the way the game develops further away as a separate game than that of the pc. I actually consider each already that as to me they are.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
You know the update is great but i feel like i got excited the first day i heard about it and was waiting and waiting for it right? then after it being out for what 3 days i just really didn't feel into it the survival is alot better though considering the adventure of the new cave spawns and things.

Meh, I haven't seen anything to dislike in the update. Then again, I have been trapped having fun in the PPNS forum. The Creative/Survival switching gets on my nerves, but I lack a loud enough voice.
My (short) list of complaints:
1. Animals do not de-spawn. Since wolves do not de-spawn, you have to make sure you keep them at bay, otherwise, your world will eventually be full of wolves that will most assuredly kill off the other animals.
2. Still falling off of blocks while crouching.
3. Old seeds do not even remotely resemble pre 1.8.2 update.
I didn't mind the biome shift. It's kind of like climate change. Just something you deal with and adapt to.
I noticed the crouch/falling problem existed before 1.8. It's infrequent, but it happens.
animal spawning does seem to be a tricky thing. it seems like your world gets a small dose of animals (whatever was present when you reload), and you may infrequently, get a new animal to appear. So on an existing world, your herd may be fine. But new areas/worlds will be sparse, and take a long time to build up.
I have noticed increased monster spawning withing "secure" areas. Normally, monsters only spawn in dark areas (less than level 7 light). I've had them spawn in my walled off, well lit island, and it kind of defeats the point of my lighting it up and walling it off.
*slowly raises hand* ...I admit I may have contributed a bit to said 'hissy fit' over the biome shift in worlds xD
But yeah, I guess I'm 'over' it now and just trying to move on with 1.8.2 the way it is and whatever good/bad changes the bugfix update will bring too! I wasn't on the forum at all prior to the 1.8.2 update though, so I had no idea that worlds would be affected like this, and thats coming from someone who's spent hours reading the Minecraft Wiki, even looking at PC stuff, despite the fact I don't have the PC version and yes I even looked through all the biome related pages and never saw anything like that!
I don't remember exactly when or where I saw it. But, I remember finding some information on the issue without even looking for it. I'm sure a search for "biome shift" through the entire forum would bring up several threads from PC users. Obviously now, those topics are buried under the same threads from 360 users.
I mean, if people know that we're getting new biomes and the terrain generation is going to undergo a complete overhaul, they're plain ignorant if they don't expect issues to arise. There were a few PC updates that rendered old worlds unplayable, they literally wouldn't load. Yet, here are all these Xbox players throwing a temper tantrum because it's now snowing in a desert....

Yeah the only blocks i ever fall off that way just so happens to be slabs, usually the single slab placed. Although there are some that claim that stairs do this as will and glass blocks. However unsure about glass, as I've only known that to happen on the pc early on. Still something that I am sure they will wrinkle out eventually.

I do agree that there were a whole lot happening more on the pc that were devastating compared to this. You can see it in quite a few of those LP series that go back pretty far as well. Some of those people have had quite a few problems too.
On the note of snow... That kinda surprised me when partial of my arches on my primary world the 10110101 seed actually had it in a pretty good spot only on one side of the mountain. So I was pretty lucky, but snow doesn't bother me since I would rework a few things around the changes if not implementing them into the design & overall look of the place. I do have to say that comparing the minor/major shift in biomes to something quite worse is obvious.
I am glad they managed to reduce the amount of errors and bugs from when it was first on pc.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
It's gone pretty much as expected: First, posts expressing varying degrees of shock at changes to weather in old worlds and rash of posts reporting a few initial, but largely minor bugs (e.g. chests appearing black). Several posts reporting some more serious bugs (e.g. rename deleting worlds unexpectedly and game worlds repeatedly freezing while online). Several bugs being reported related to lag (which is an issue on some XBoxes and not so much an issue on others). Several posts reporting pseudo-bugs (issues commonly related to new players not really understanding how the game is supposed to work).
Now, defensive posts about the game and posts complaining about people complaining about the game. All should die down after the bug fix update is released... and then we'll get all the "when does 1.2.3 come out" threads.
sprinting was pretty clearly stated in the update notes. too bad my update notes didnt show until the third time i played, after the update... maybe THATS the root of so much player frustration: they were never properly communicated with. and in-game is the ONLY proper way. sorry, this forum, twitter, facebook, or any of that other stuff doesnt count.
Most of all, everyone was throwing a hissy fit about biomes shifting on old worlds. It has been known this would happen for nearly a year now. i have played thousands of video games in my life. never has the onus been on me to know what an update would bring and if it would "ruin" my world/game/save. there is no precedent for this. its new ground. this may be common plac for MMOs or PC gaming, but not for consoles. that fact that youre annoyed by the reactions of other players is more of a testiment to your love of the game (by spending so much time here. not a judegment, just an ovservation based on my limited time here and yourresponses in most every thread i read here), not thier "fault of ingnorance."
when i got the update, there was no mention of it changing my existing world... at least not that i saw.
you need ot assume that NO ONE reads these boards or researches updates or reads twitter or facebook or anything. that it the proper veiw-point. not blaming the players for being ignorant! or being annoyed that they are confused.

I agree with most of this post, but allot of the ones on the forums complaining the loudest about how their worlds were ruined had 100's of posts under their belt. They knew this was going to happen and still complained and pleaded ignorance.

Everyone even remotely following the development of MCXBLA knew we were getting a completely new system for terrain generation. And that we would be getting new biomes. Now, to squeeze in the new biomes, the generation and proportion of the old biomes are obviously going to change. It's pretty obvious that some things may change.

Let's say someone sees an issue and doesn't look for previous evidence on the forum, they don't attempt any research whatsoever. In this situation, they have no business posting a whiney thread like they made some huge bug discovery. And if they do so, they are in fact, being ignorant.
The n00b question threads are bad enough. It is a small annoyance when someone asks an obvious question they could've found the answer to after spending less than five minutes on the Wiki. But, I usually answer and move on, since they're not being rude or insulting anyone. However, when people blame 4J for something like biome shifts, that's flat out disrespectful. This is a problem that is unavoidable, and has been known for almost a year now.
Imagine yourself as a mailman. Needing stamps is an inconvenience when it comes to using the postal service. You, the lowly mailman, have no control over this. Imagine that every single day, half of the citizens you deliver mail to, would come out of their house just to b*tch at you about stamps, and tell you how much you suck at your job. I'm not sure about you, but to me that would get real old, real quick.

You sir, deserve respect for this post. Those who blame 4j for their problems are indeed being disrespectful and likely don't realize how difficult programming can be in certain situations.
I hope so. 4J said something about it a long time ago, possibly being done with 1.8.2,
then starting up texture packs? I don't know, but I really hope they add some in the future.
