I learned much of Minecraft through my School of Hard Knocks. For instance, I foolishly thought I could build an extravagant stronghold from the off and experience all the new patches and features as they came from my ever-expanding massive castle.
Nein, mein herr.
When the big ol' 1.8.2 came along, it was obvious I had to start over to get the lion's share of the new features. I was both frustrated and oddly, mildly pleased about that. Frustrated because all my work was for naught, but pleased because I was getting a little too comfortable with my stockpiled resources, and the game challenge was beginning to erode.
So I've learned that this will probably be the case each time. But that's OK, its the nature of the beast, and again it keeps a certain masochistic appeal.
Anyhoo, I started with the new world and saw the villages and such, but then noticed this was an arctic biome and there were no cacti, after starting another impressive castle. So the next lesson I learned was -- scout around and make sure you have the world you want -- its much better to start over after a few minutes than to lose the work of many hours.
OK, there's a point buried here, I promise. I found a world I liked. I started to build and battle, and everything seemed to be going well. Then the time came where I needed some sticky pistons.
So I delved down my dropshaft mine to bedrock.
No slimes.
I mined around a bit, and the greenies are all MIA.
OK, I remember people posting about slimes being totally missing from their underworlds, but I never once had a problem. Is my prime world not as prime as I thought? Is slime spawning broken?
Are you consulting a slime finder website to get the location of an actual slime chunk? Slimes only spawn in about 10% of the chunks based on a formula that uses your world's seed.
It's a shame really. . the slime finder doesn't seem to work on my computer, so I have to just try a map/seed, and see after many many many hours of play.
Surely it should be changed so that slimes can spawn on any map/seed, anywhere. . . .well, I say anywhere, but I mean at the depths of the map where they usually are, and as long as a big enough 'hole' is dug out?
After all, slimes are not that much of an important mob, IMO. I mean, you get gunpowder from creepers, which makes TNT. . . .which is really cool, and can be used throughout your, erm, quest? . . . anyway, slime balls can be used for sticky pistons. . .after you collect, say, 40 of them, you don't really use anymore. Unless you're making a huge mechanism. . .but gunpowder/TNT, used once then boom. . .you need more. . . BUT, back to my point, creepers are more common and easier to find. It just don't make sense IMO.
Slime finder is broken i can assure you that. I will provei t to you you can enter my seed and u can go to the chunk that i made for slime to spawn on. Add AgentX44Jobo if u want to disagree and prove me wrong!

I thought it was broken at first as well, but you should ask someone what to do, because I had read the coords wrong, even though I thought they were correct. /sigh.

I need to give out more reputation. I'm not used to the system, but I see so many helpful posts. D: Sorry if I forget you!

I have had an issue with 1 seed (before the update) where the slime did not spawn on the chunk where the slime finder said it would. They instead spawned, quite clearly, on a chunk that was a couple of chunks away from the chunk the slime finder indicated. I doubled checked my seed, the slime finder, and my map multiple times. So, yeah, I agree with you, for some rare seed strings, the slime finder formula doesn't appear to be working right. However, I do think 99% of the time, it does display the correct slime chunks since most people are not reporting similar problems with it.
More recently, as a test of the slime finder, I created a superflat world and fenced in several of the slime chunks indicated by the slime finder. When I switched over to easy, the slimes did clearly spawn on the proper chunks within the fenced in areas. I think, therefore, that it still a useful tool for most everyone to locate slimes in their worlds.
Locked for redundancy. You may direct yourself to the Slime 101 thread for all the information you need about finding slimes.
I can also assure you that the slime finder tool isnt broken because it has nothing to do with terrain generation. It is based off chunks created when you create your world.
