Depends on you luck really. Love melons on the world I have them. Me and a pal started a pure survival world yesterday and Mushroom stew was the best for us. Resources were sparse so bonemealing mushrooms was just the best. We did have wheat farms from native villages...but they take so long to grow that its just not a good resource. For a bit there we were living on Rotten Flesh to be honest. The best food is one you can harvest often and grow fast. Without breeding that means all meat is out. Wheat takes too long. Melons take a second to get started, but grow fast after that. But mushrooms.....are everywhere. And getting bonemeal is pretty easy. So stew is where its at. Its by and far the easiest thing to get going on day one. Easier, even, if you happen to spawn near a swamp biome. You find one of each in day one, then fight some skeles on night one and you already have all the food you will ever need.
It has a good saturation value too. Best. Food. Ever.
Until we get an update that corrects it, zombie pigmen = infinite cooked porkchops, and are fun as anything to farm. not to mention pork and steak restore that most hunger and saturation.
So naturally I'm milking the nether for all it's worth.
But likely, we'll have breeding in the same update that zombie pigmen start dropping gold nuggets instead of porkchops, so I can just breeed cws and pigsfor meat that way.
AH you are missing "Apples" lol even if they are hard to find sometimes. But easy to obtain.
For me it is the same as before the update. Anything that i have available around me, whether it is a farm i made or thrill of the hunt.
Especially very early on in a survival game, it just depends on whatever you have available around you. A quick raid of a village is great if one presents itself - not only for the wheat, but also for the wool in the village street lamps.
On one survival island seed, I had to survive on a few apples and some rotten flesh since there were essentially no skeles around for bone meal, no spiders for string for a fishing rod, and no animals save 3 chickens, and only 1 wheat seed to start with in all the grass I could mow on my little island... and swimming around looking for other land was burning up the calories. I waited until I absolutely had to kill the chickens, and at that time I had only three eggs to try throwing... and not one of them spawned another chicken. I was in a desperate state to say the least. Almost thankfully. a creeper finally put me out of my misery. It's just the luck of the draw.
Currently, bread is my choice on food. It's easy to obtain and easy to manage. Melons as well. Anything you can get a whole lot of and continue to produce is the best in this update.
Let me know if I missed anything!
