I'm playing on a hardcore survival world on PC. I found a chicken deep in the Nether. This is my first time in the Nether in this world. As soon as I made my portal I went in searching for a fortress. I found a chicken just wandering around deep in the Nether. Of course, there's no grass blocks around as I just entered the Nether. I have no idea how this chicken got here. It's so far away from my portal. I immediately googled chickens spawning in the nether naturally. Besides from eggs, it says nothing of chickens being able to spawn on their own in the Nether.
1.) This is the 360 section. Don't come here expecting to find PC-related answers.
2.) To contradict #1...that chicken was part of a zombie pigman jockey. There is a small chance that a baby zombie pigman will spawn riding on a chicken. In this case the zombie must have despawned.
(ZPM jockeys do not exist on the 360 before anyone even asks....)
umm... mobs can go through the portal. I've seen it several times. From both ways. I've had wither skeletons, blazes and magma cubes follow me through and I've seen all manners of overworld mobs in the nether. Ranging from chickens, cows, sheep and horses to spiders and endermen.

Not sure if I'll get yelled at for necro-ing, but I think I know why the chicken spawned. It's rare, but possible for Zombie Pigmen to spawn as chicken Jockey's. If you're a ways away, the Pigman will despawn, but the chicken won't.

I'm going to venture and say that would be yelled at since I and others already stated that as a possibility.
