I did a lot of clear cutting of trees so right now I am just eating red apples. got tons of them. all other animal meats and wheat, etc are sitting in a chest at the moment. Stocking up i guess.
Melons. Even though one slice heals 1 on the hungar bar you can stack full melons too and have tons of food for whatever adventure you go on. and i just realized you can craft a melon slice into melon seeds. quick and easy, never go hungry.
For the XB360, PC, and soon to be Pocket edition, my favorite is melons. It may be hard to find the seeds but once you do you can quickly grow a huge melon farm.

I have a chicken pen with around 40-ish chickens (took about 300 eggs ) and now I get about 20 eggs every 5 minutes. I have a large wood fence around my land and will throw the eggs then kill the chickens. I also have a wheat farm.
Melons, even though they're absolutely horrible compared to other foods (1 hunger point refill and insanely low saturation). But they're watermelons! What can not be more awesome than that?
I had 2 eggs that I was holding on to for a special occasion. I decided "Right! Time for some chickens". Built a pen, took my eggs and threw them in... nothing.
I then went searching my map for some more chickens all I found was a hole with a creeper and death...
