I have been working in Creative/Peaceful scratch world, just basically testing new designs. I am the only one who uses that world.
Anyway, I had been snatching up any sheep that spawned nearby and cajoling/fishing/rage-bumping them into a sheepfold area. Has double fencing with no gaps and is about 17sq.
In all the hours I have been working, exiting, working etc. my 7 captured sheep were content wander around aimlessly, madly hopping to the piping of a forgotten, blind deity. I would often fly over, presumably spitting to try and hit them.
Today's homework was trying to get domed roofs done right and I was working on a few towers right next to the sheepfold, After a bit, I realized I was not seeing many of my delicious sheep. So I inspected my sheep to find there was suddenly only one. Now, as far as I know, sheep are not carnivorous, so I doubt he ate the others. Nor do I think they have figured out how to use the Creative Mode's flight just yet.
Anyone know what might be going on with them? (If you say Herobrine or ghosts, imagine me slapping you hard enough you suddenly grow a beard).
There was only two small structures. a 4x6 and a 6x6 in the pen and neither were near the fences. I have double checked and am certain there are no gaps. And I have put many hours onto this world, so i suspect if there were a gap, I'd have lost them well before now. Nor did I find them under the one bed in the shack.
Can the red-bumping damage they seem to take from hitting a block actually kill them, or was this just some random act of code/God/aliens that happened on me?
It was the alies dude. . . .Did you find the carcases, with bits missing? Cause they do that you know.
On a serious note, this has happened to me, but with ducks/chickens, whatever they are. I had them in a pen about 10x10, 2 high fences all around, on flat groud, with nothing near them. About 6 of them.
After about 30 mins of not being near them, I went back and there were none there. This was in survival, and I hatched them from eggs. I have never seen them fly, so maybe they've had their wings clipped or summit. Anyway, the only thing I can think that it is, is that you can only have a certain amount of animals in a small area. I'm gonna try a bigger pen (50x50), then try again.
Oh, mine didn't take any of that falling damage, while in their pen.
A few of us have reported an "invisible chicken" glitch on the official bugs list. Basically, we've penned up chickens and after saving and exiting the world, the chickens have seemingly disappeared from the pens. However, eggs still appear inside the pens, so the chickens themselves must still be inside the pens. Like you, i also penned up several animals in individual completely closed pens in a superflat world (fences only, no nearby structures in or out of the pen, and only 1 animal per pen). I saved and exited and when I returned, 3 of the pens were empty. To the best of my knowledge, 1 cow, 1 sheep, and 1 pig were all "missing." They were probably still inside the pen, but since they don't drop eggs or anything else unless killed, the pen seemed to be entirely empty.
As an additional note. I think this is also happening with both passive and hostile mobs "in the wild." Although it hasn't happened to me yet, other people have reported being attacked by invisible creepers and such. I think this invisibility glitch may also partially explain why there is apparently a serious lack of sheep and other animals in some worlds.
