Just to let you know, the statistics below are on my POST PATCH world, not an old world. As you may know, some people are having issues finding animals on post patch OR Pre patch worlds. This includes me. I actually had to cheat to get a bed from creative, since I have not seen any sheep yet. I'll have you know, I have discovered the whole world too.
Chicken:1
Pigs: 2
Cows: 0
Sheep:0
Wolves: A gazillion.

This is exactly the same for me. We must be lucky or something because everyone seems to have an issue with animals.
I think people don't really have a handle on how the mobs spawn now.
They used to have a chance of spawning every like 20 seconds, but now they have a chance to spawn every like 30 minutes or something like that. Also, if people are looking for Sheep, Cows, Pigs, and Chicken they need to steer clear of Forests and Taiga (Snow) biomes. Those are the two main spawning areas of Wolves.
The rest of the passive mobs tend to spawn in Plains biomes. Clearing Tall Grass also helps them spawn because a passive mob cannot spawn on a block that has Tall Grass on it.
A lot of passive mobs end up in mine shafts or pits/holes, I've had loads of pigs, sheep and cows in pits, chickens I have plenty of now, I only found 2 after searching the map for ages, fenced them in and then collected as many eggs as I could and hatched my own.
I found about 15 in one small 2 by 2 hole.
Slaughter pit
Other than that I haven't seen any chickens for a couple of days.
I have a cow trapped in my well but don't see many more.
And all the sheep I find are ones are I've shawn.
I found a few pigs maybe 5 in the last few days.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
My theory is that Squid and wolves are taking up useful Mob places, there is a cap. Kill them and see what spawns in there place. Go into creative and kill the squid.
Let me know if that improves things.
Interesting. There seems to be more squids and wolves in my 1.8 world, I'll try your idea and I'll see what will happen.
you didnt need to cheat to get a bed, there is a ton of spider webs in the abandoned mine shafts , thats how i got mine
Thanks now I have enough beds to start a hotel LOL Now if I could get some chickens, already have a penned up cow for milk. Although don't need cake got enough melons and bread to last a life time.,..
In my Pre 1.8.2 world, I was also having a hard time finding any animals. After searching the map for a bit I found that the majority of the animals fell into holes and started to wander off into the caves underground. I ended up finding quite a few sheep and pigs down there.
On one of the survival Island seeds (island with 1 tree and no other land in sight - and I have swam quite a distance around the island itself). I know there is more land on this particular seed since this is the second time I have loaded it; but I have deliberately avoided going there just to see what would spawn on the island where I'm at. I have seen a total of 3 chickens spawned in 4 minecraft days and nights. No cows, no sheep, no pigs, no wolves (obviously, since I only had 1 tree to start with). Some squid; but I'm told they don't count towards the cap of the other passive mobs.
Interesting. There seems to be more squids and wolves in my 1.8 world, I'll try your idea and I'll see what will happen.
I just don't want most of my maps to have achievements or the leaderboard disabled. Have a couple of creative maps and no problem with animals on them.
Pigs: 1
Cows: 1
Sheep: 0
Chickens: Tons, because I made them all from eggs
Wolves: For every 1 I kill, 3 take its place

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Damn! I forgot that you could make wool with string! Thanks!
Now you gotta start over since your map is tainted with the "warning: This map was previously edited in creative mode" quote.
I did the same thing at first and could not stand that warning, so I bit a very tough bullet and started over, same map. Ended up cool though, as I can visit the same map but in creative mod (seperate save) and find everything I need flying around/x-ray walk/dumb luck.
This is a good idea because you can find sheep faster, and I suspect that if you kill the sheep and save cooridnates, that they very well may just respawn there again

Nah, I already have all the achievements and I don't care about leaderboards.

Really. That'll be handy for limited them. Thanks.
