I've been trying to make a hidden room with a passageway through a painting my paintings seem to be falling off the wall. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong or a bug.
So to start, I just wanted a 2 block tall by 1 block wide opening. The typical size of a normal opening that a player can walk through. My thought was to put the same size painting (2 Blocks Tall by 1 Block Wide) on the wall. Then I made a temporary hole in my wall a little further down the wall just so I could get behind the wall and remove the blocks the painting was sitting on. I thought it would stay even without sticking to blocks but I was wrong.
So then I thought, "well maybe it there needs to be something behind part of the painting to make it stick". So I tried using a 4x4 painting to cover my 1x2 walkway. Nope, that didn't work either. The 4x4 painting kept falling off the wall even if there was just one block missing behind it.
You just need to either put a real door, and shut it if you're inside so no one thinks there is anything there, or two signs one beneath the other and the painting will stick, but it has to be the bigger ones, and not a 1x2. I use that trick all the time..:D
Not true, I use 1x2 paintings for almost all my hidden doors. you are correct about puttings signs where the "door" is that you want to walk through but when you're putting the paintings up, put it literally on the edge of the sign. Might post pics of different door sizes soon.

I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe a picture or screen shot?
So to explain these pictures...to make the 2x1 door you obviously put signs where the door would be. When putting the painting, put it on the edge of the lower sign till you get the right size painting. For the 2x2 door, do the same thing with the signs, but to get the bigger paintings like the 2x2, 2x4, and 4x4 ones, place the painting on the upper left sign edge. Hope this helps.
btw, I'm not sure how to make wider door ways, to make taller ones just put signs up higher.
...sorry for double post, but this topic fell down the line a ways while I was editing my last post with pics, and I wanted to make sure it was seen but the OP and who ever else needed help with this.

Thanks so much. That explains everything. I had never see. It done with signs like that so when you mentioned placing it on the signs I was scratching my head thinking it was a typo.
Ill try it out tonight and report back. Thanks again!!!

Anyone know what gives?
I'm pretty sure if a painting is on a block, and that block moves, the painting falls off.
In other words, I don't think it'll be possible to have the painting part of your wall, also be the door part of your wall.
I'd do the next best thing, and just make the hidden door right next to the painting.
I'm also not 100% what I'am saying is correct, I haven't personally tested that specific hidden door type.
