Since the release of 1.8.2 i know that animals do not despawn. but i was wondering do/can they spawn? Assuming you have the right conditions for animals to spawn. Xbox is the only time ive played Minecraft since my computer is a dinosaur and struggles to run Minecraft at a decent framerate even with settings set to minimal.
Sorry if this question has been asked before i am new to this forum and didnt want to sift through hundreds of threads. thankyou

thats what the search bar is for but to answer your question im not quite sure myself i THINK they can still spawn under the right conditions but im not sure
I am sure the only thing different about those type of mobs spawning is respawn. Now after the despawn update, they take longer to respawn. They do respawn, but takes a lot longer now...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Oh sorry about that i will use that feature from now if im looking for an answer.
And thank for your quick answer. they prob do respawn, but take much longer than before. wasnt sure if they were just walking around or respawning near my house. ive been limiting my animal killing until we can breed them.
They now spawn/respawn at a much slower rate than before. There is also a cap (upper limit) on how many can exist in the world at one time. Once that cap is reached, new ones will only spawn to replace ones that have been killed.
#1- Mow your grass!!!! I've had so much tall grass in the area I set up a base, I just took a torch and got rid of it....also can use water.
Animals won't spawn on tall grass.
#2-Make shears. Make plenty of fences and gates for them. Go around and start to kill animals, shear sheep before you kill them. Fear not, they will come back. You'll get food and wool. If you run across a chicken, trap him in a fence. You can wait around and let him lay some eggs. Might take a while to get a bunch, just mine in the area while you wait.
I did this and took the eggs back to my home base, and hatched a few chickens in my chicken farm by throwing the eggs. I now have 7 chickens, and last night 3 sheep spawned near my home....I sheared and killed them since the wool won't regrow right now.

I get lot's of chickens spawning in my world and an occasional pig or sheep. Since the update I haven't seen a single cow or wolf. Wolves weren't that common before but the cow thing is odd. It used to be we would find cows all over the place. Now nothing. I don't even know what beef looks like!

NO COWWS!!! I love cows look at my picture thats how much i love cows (not in a sexual way i might add)
I know, Right! For me It's not a big deal but it totally drives my oldest son nuts as he is on a mission to have a farm. He's managed to trap some sheep, pigs, and chickens but no cows so far. At this point he's gone to wandering aimlessly around the map hoping to chance upon one. I'm not sure exactly how he plans to get it back to his farm once he does but that's his strategy right now.
One of the things I've noticed is that I've found animals trapped in holes or stuck on the side of a mountain. Plus the fact there are a lot more wolves now. I had a cow spawn on a small wheat field near where I trapped my first chicken. But I'm not keeping animals till breeding comes out other than chickens.
And the steak looks good, cooked to a nice medium! put on some A-1 and eat well!

There are now several posts emerging describing/confirming that a glitch exists that is causing even safely penned animals to turn invisible. They are not dying... they are still there (first evidenced by eggs appearing out of nowhere inside "empty" chicken pens). We just can't seem them. Therefore, there may be others in the wild that have turned invisible and all are probably still counting towards the spawn cap. It's difficult to kill what you can't see in order to spark new ones respawning.
That would certainly explain my lack of cows if they are all invisible. Before this update I was looking forward to being able to pen animals but without breeding the slow spawn rate and glitches like these have changed my mind. They probably should have left the spawning alone until they could support breeding as well.
In all the worlds I've started since the update, there have been a large number of wolves roaming around. At first I left them alone and kept hunting for other passives. In my newest world I have been killing all wolves I see after getting my pack ( about 6 wolves). It may be a coincidence, but since I started doing that, more and more cows, sheep, chickens have started spawning.....And I have been cutting down all the tall grass I can as well..
Can anyone help me out??? I spawned on a little island in the middle of the ocean ( Minecraft version 1.4.7 ) and there are no animals only bats but in the caves in the deep. I collected some bones for bonemeal and i grew some tall gras and plants. I want to make a farm but the only option is to spawn some animals with spawn eggs. I don't want to cheat !!! PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!
You're probably in the wrong section....this is the XBOX version, and haven't been updated to 1.4.7 yet.
