It might be related to the "invisible chicken" glitch. Someone else posted it on, I think, the bug thread or maybe it was one of the threads running about passive mobs spawning. Anyway, it happened to me... I penned up a couple of chickens inside a fence, saved and exited. When I came back, it appeared as though the pen was empty. At first I figured they had escaped somehow; but then eggs started appearing inside the pen - seemingly out of nowhere. The chickens are still there; but they are invisible. Maybe your dog is still there and you just can't see it?
So its a glitch or did he die bc he got stuck on a wall bc for some reason they get dmg when they touch a wall idk why
Maybe his health was low and he died from that. I have seen dogs stay "stuck" between doors and walls, before and after the update in my original world. It might be a glitch.
The only thing I could think of is to "move" the other dog to another location. Then get a piece of "food" and see if you can find the dog by using the left trigger in the area that you feel the dog was before it disappeared. Or the left trigger to get the dog not move with the use button. really just fishing here....
