What do you guys think of the passive mob spawning in the Xbox Edition. Personally I think it needs to be revamped because I have very few passive mobs in my worlds. I think the will not work for the Xbox Edition. This is how I think passive mobs should spawn.
1. Have the breeding system from 1.0.0 PC Minecraft because passive mobs are practically useless without this system. (It really annoying trying to get chickens into pens to farm, as chickens lay eggs, which can be used to spawn new chickens.)
2. Continue to use the Passive Mob spawn system from 1.7.3, however at a slighty slower rate so it balances out with the breeding system. This would be very helpful as your worlds never run out of passive animals, because you can't generate new terrain unlike the pc version of mincraft. (infinite terrain)
So what do you guys think?
P.S. Does anyone actually know how the passive spawn system works in Minecraft Xbox Edition (1.8.2 Update)?
I wasn't seeing any passive mobs at all after a while except for wolves. (At one point I had creepers and endermen out the wazzoo.)
However, I was coming back back home from another village and came upon a "pond", but it was surrounded by 2-block high dirt. In it were probably 2 dozen chickens, pigs, sheep, and cows, all trapped. I dug out the sides so there was 1 block high steps and they all "escaped". I also found 2 cave entrances with high dirt around them. Mobs had fell in, but couldn't get out. I fixed it so they could "escape" too. Hopefully I'll see more passive mobs in the future. At least I know what happened to them!
Maybe someone should ask them on twitter. I would do it myself but I don't have a twitter account or plan to sign up for one. That would clear up a lot.
has this been posted in the bug thread or wherever? because it really is a problem. I've seen literally 1 sheep, 1 cow (which seems to have disappeared), 2 pigs, and 2 or 3 chickens. Wolves though.... thats an entirely different story, i cant walk for 30 seconds without seeing a different pack of wolves. I started my world the day after the update was released and have been around the map 3 separate times looking for animals with no luck.

Yay it has been posted on the bug list, however no official word on what 4J is gonna do about it. It's too bad wolves didn't drop feathers or meat, cause in my world I would be loaded!
i think it depends on the biome your in, i mean your not likely to see the wolves in a desert biome, nor other animals for that matter, i do see alot of chickens wheres theres alot of grass, and cows where theres lush green,
i have got 3 pigs and 2 sheep penned, but thats a waste of time as you cant do nothing with them,
i keep saying it but build chicken farms, i have over a stack of cooked chicken in only a couple of RL days, its a good source of meat, i normally stand next to my output when im having my dinner (about an hr) and generally get 6-7 stacks of eggs, from that i can get 25-30 or so chickens,
even before the update you couldnt rely on meat by hunting them in the wilds cause they would run out, i like the new spawning rate, alot more realistic...
just got to adapt and overcome !!
It's kinda hard to adapt when you gotta cross the whole 1000 block world, just to find 1 chicken. Minecraft is REALLY fun, however that part is not fun for now.
Although I don't have any problems at all keeping Steve well-fed (raiding village wheat farms FTW!!!), I still think that there are far too few animals spawning. I've created about 20 new worlds since the update to test various seeds, and there are three things that are rather weird and/or annoying.
First of all, it's rather tricky to find three wool for a bed during the first day. Even when I find iron ore and craft sheers, I sometimes don't find a single sheep at all. Secondly, it's now far easier and quicker to mine enough ore for an iron armor than it is to find enough cows for a leather armor. Considering that the iron armor is way better, it's kind of awkward that obtaining something better is easier than obtaining something inferior.
Thirdly, and that's what annoys me the most, is that the worlds simply appear empty, liveless, and boring without animals roaming around. Something is simply missing. Something important.
random idea! all passive mobs...have hunger! wolves satisfying it...well you already know im sure. but pigs, chickens, cows and sheep get it filled by either being on grass blocks, or breaking tall grass. that would prevent them from wandering into the middle of the ocean...forever...and make it reltively easier to get animals. an idea
I was under the impression that passive mobs spawned on grass blocks. Well, I can verify (post 1.8.2) that they will spawn on dirt and stone blocks. Unless I hallucinated that cow. But seriously, how can we make passive mob farms if they can spawn anywhere now?

I have no farm yet, just killing everything around me and they keep coming back...
I will be starting a chicken farm though.

very astute reasoning

Let's hope so, but a breeding system is needed to do any serious passive mob farming
I agree with you maybe someone should contact 4J Studios and see if they would add it into th Bug Fix Update for 1.8.2
And make a lot.
(about an in-game week finally have caught 2 cows, 3 chickens. maybe I'll catch some pigs and sheep in a different pen for when they add breeding.
Edit: I believe your dirt claim because I found a 2 chickens and a pig at the bottom of a ravine and cave system
