I currently do not have my Xbox (I sold it to Gamestop to knock the price of the upcoming Halo 4 console down a little bit), so, if you could do some reconnaissance and report back here, that would be pretty neat of you :}
Lol, but if anyone has any insight on this, it would greatly be appreciated.
I'm sorry, but did I ask for your opinion on the matter or whether or not it was ported or a glitch or whatnot? No. I am talking about the discontinuity between the things I have witnessed regarding this effect.
See yourself out, please.
you sold your xbox 360 to get another xbox 360...wtf
Given the difference of opinion on the bedrock fog (void fog), I'm going to make it a toggle in the graphics options, with it defaulting to off. This will be added to the 1.8.2 Bug Fix Update we're currently working on.
Well it just goes to show, cry hard enough & you shall recieve change. Imagine what the PC version of Minecraft would be like if it were salted with the tears of the MCX360 community.
Yeah I think the void fog is pretty silly, it does add a bit more of a challenge, which I do like, but it should at least be optional (like the render clouds option they just added)

I just sent a mass text to all of my friends because of your response. THANKS MAN! I can't WAIT to play Minecraft again!
does this mean that our current worlds will auto switch to void off? because i kind of like the void fog and it would be a shame to loose it after some of us just got it and enjoy it as it is...
It's going to be toggle-able, so you can have it on or off whenever you choose!
Now, all I have left to deal with is the biome-change glitch/feature, but that is not even as CLOSE as an annoyance as my underground city being ruined! THANKS AGAIN 4J!
But, what trencheel says is true as well. Feedback is feedback; complaining can be feedback, criticizing can be feedback. Feedback is anything that we say or do to express how we feel about certain things or certain products.
Void fog, having experienced it now. I don’t care for it at all. If it were half the strength it is, it would probably be non-issue, but the 6 or 7 block view distance at the very bottom, regardless of adjacent lighting, that’s just ridiculous. The darkness defying light logic makes no sense at all.

I wouldn't mind it at all if it wasn't forced upon. Sure, there will be times when I start a new world and I will say "Ya know what? I want this to be a hard survival! Void fog, ACTIVATE!" but, there will be times (MOST of the time) that I will say "Ok, I want to go on my main world...void fog, go away. Yay slime farms!"
I am surprised padware said the default state would be off. (In fact, that fact alone still makes me question the validity of the whole post). I would expect that the default state would be on and that disabiling it would also count as switching to creative mode for the purposes of the leaderboards and achievements (like host privledges).
In fact, I wouldn't have any problem if they ended up reversing themselves and implementing it as I've noted above.
I was advocating for the toggle because it does impact the ability of some people to play the game due to physical limitations (eyesight problems). By the same token, I fervently believe that the competitive aspects of MCXBLA shouldn't be diluted. (Not that I understand anyone approaching MCXBLA competitively - but I understand that some people do....)

I agree; and personally feel the default should be on. With my eyesight, I will click it off and be very grateful for the opportunity to click it off. It will make the difference enabling me to again play for longer periods of time in the lower layers of the map. I can't even get to become competitive if I can only tolerate playing for a few minutes a day.
I don't think toggles arbitrarily dilute the competive aspects of the game. They are just options and much depends on the intent of the individual when they decide to use them or not. Also, toggles aren't always just inserted to make game aspects easier, they can also be inserted to make game aspects tougher (e.g. when a switch for adding Hardcore Mode comes).
In terms of when the Hardcore Mode option gets added, maybe the Void Fog option/toggle could be forced on for that one, just to increase the difficulty that bit extra than if you were to simply turn it off and have an easier time exploring the lower-layers!
Personally, I'm probaby not ever going to get good enough to play on Hardcore, so what they do with that probably won't affect me at all. In principle, I don't think they should have to "force" an option on someone opting to play a game in Hardcore mode, since those individuals are probably of a mindset where they want to make things as tough for themselves as they can anyway... but perhaps I'm a bit of an idealist and optimist when it comes to people in general.
If you open the city to the sky then void fog doesn't exist...
Yes, we know. I have alredy done so in a couple of areas (BTW UU_A - it turns out the 20 blocks apart on a square pattern are not enough to preclude the fog if you stand in the exact, diagonal center :-s)
Anyway, the fact that the sunlight precludes void fog is not a panecea. For instance, in my case I have a mob shooting gallery at bedrock, opening it to the sun would preclude its purpose because it would not be dark enough to spawn mobs.
Now just time to wait and see..:D
