Ok, when I first got the update, I was beyond angry. My large, sprawling town sat perfectly on the border of cold/warm climates, the main city, or "money" side sat in the cold side, the farms, of course, sat on the warm side. Both had buildings that were full of chests, that were mostly full themselves. I'm talking, like, 100 chests filled with cobblestone alone type of big. No mods, no dupe.
Then the update happens. All of a sudden, every chest is black, glitchy and moved. The biomes have shifted, freezing my farms, killing my crops. Totally removing the cool "border town" appeal to my town. The animals I once had to BATTLE just to run a minecart on ground level are all gone, leaving me with pretty much just my 12 wolves. I mean come on, we're talking our FIRST map, we got the game on 360 as soon as it came out. Our warm climate fishing holes, all gone too. I was OFFENDED that they would release an update without checking it against previously existing maps, which is the only way I see this happening. I was angry enough to consider filing suit for defacing our creative image. A hand made mine, city and future castle, months in the making.
I know, extreme, good thing I chilled a bit.
I've "fixed" about half the chests so far. A daunting task.
I've "heated" the fields and noticed that the sugar cane looks kinda cool lit within and all in rows.
I've even accepted that since seemingly few people build in the snowy forests, it makes my map even more unique.
What still bothers me is the lack of mobs in general as it seems, since the closest I've come to "cheating" is my 2 four-tower mob grinders, and output is extremely low now. I was pushing a stack and a half out of each of gunpowder per hour while I went off and did my out-of-home mechanic bit that I call work. One stack of TNT a day. Now I barely get anything.
Passive mobs missing hurts too. My once over-stocked in town diner is now nearly bare, and so is the wool section in the general store.
I know, I've turned my post into yet another thread whining about mobs, so instead of complaining further, I will simply ask a question I don't recall seeing yet: "When will they FIX the issue with the mobs???" Does anybody know? I want to get back to production as normal on this giant hole the castle will be nested in...
And yes, I am one of those freaks who has no interest in starting a new map until I am finished with mine, and not even interested in creative mode on it, either. I welcome the update for the new block patterns and the few features that are useful on previous maps.
To answer your question: They will fix it when they fix it.
How many updates will we go through before people figure this out? How many patches have been released? Hmmmm... about 4, I think. And how many times did they provide a release date? Ohhh... let's say, somewhere around... 0.

Well once breeding comes out I don't seem many problems with the passive mobs, assuming you would be able to find them to lure into those dens. But for now I guess to enjoy what is there is the best I can say with an ever changing game like this one...:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
If you get angry enough about a game save that you consider filing a lawsuit over it, even for a second, then the problem is you my friend, not the game. Think about that. Filing a lawsuit? Absolutely laughable.
to me what ive created is art, no different to any other artist, it may be just a game to some but to me its a way of showing off my skills, my art, my love for construction, but, its being defaced by this new biome generation, ppl say 4J couldnt suspect what would happen, well its not rocket science, you try it, if a maps already got its own set of biomes, dont change it !!
Take the seed for that map and create a new map using that seed. Look at the weather on the old world- they are the same as the new ones. The biomes have changed because the generation changed. It was a concious decision, not a mistake. 4J knew exactly what would happen, and couldn't help it. It was an unavoidable and unfortunate, but necessary change.
PC version is pretty open to mods, why don't you create the 1.8 update without changing generation? I mean, it's not rocket science, right?

Starting to see a pattern here?
Well said Mr. FahrtAutoRC
My desert snows.... And the other half rains.
