I remember a year ago they were talking about how Minecraft for Xbox would have Kinect compatibility. And now I don't think they mentioned it since 2011... Did they abandon the idea?

no i dont think they abandoned it but when you think about hit kinect and minecraft just dont mix
Building the most basic of structures would take a lifetime with that sloppy interface, I can only imagine the ridiculous motions of your hand over and over and over again as you place block after block. It would probably feel something like Parkinson's disease.
I could see voice commands for Creative mode being useful... other than that...

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Makes sense I suppose. Voice commands would probably work ok, but lemme guess you have to say "XBOX" before any command, right?
Lame.
You only say Xbox on the Dashboard. That isn't how Kinect works in games.
I'm sure 4J could easily come up with some more original things to use it for if it were to ever be added. Possibly using it in tandem with the Enchanting and Potion making later on or something.

Still faster than browsing through the menu with a controller. Plus it avoids accidental commands. Like if your friend shows up and you say something like, "Hey, wanna get stoned?" (5 minutes later) "Man, I'm starving, I could really go for a pork chop or some cookies." (10 minutes later) "Did I ever show you my glass piece? Check it out, even the bowl is made of glass."
Now your inventory is full of useless crap, all because you got high. Don't do drugs, kids. (Okay, maybe just a little.)

What kinect games have you played? We have the Adventure one and Disneyland. I've also played the one with the animals and Fable 3 and none of them use voice commands. I'd be really irritated if the people near the TV couldn't go near you or talk LOL.
The creative voice interference would be very useful.
Just play skyrim with kinect and you can see how much useful it is

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
Useful for some and more of an annoyance to others.... Optional is ok. but Kinect only things....*shakes head* I personally see no point to buy the game if that is case. Like the new fable.... no point buying it when i can't play it...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Mostly games where Kinect is optional have voice commands. Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 are probably the best examples. In Skyrim you can use Kinect to Dragon Shout and equip any and all spells and weapons. Extremely useful for not breaking gameplay flow by entering the menu. In Mass Effect 3 it is extremely helpful because it allows you to command your squad. Again, very useful for not breaking the flow of gameplay.
Kinect in Minecraft will probably never happen simply because so many gamers have irrational hate towards it for some reason. I've talked to some people that hate it so much they make it sound like it's murdered their family and friends.

I don't hate the kinect, but I do absolutely despise what the motion control craze has done to the gaming industry. We have been flooded with garbage game after garbage game for the past 2 years off the back of these devices. It seems most kinect and ps3 move based games are made simply on the basis that it will sell because you can use motion. And it seems regardless of quality, the majority of motion control users (read mothers/children/people using it for fitness) will snap up said garbage game simply because they can use motion control. Quality seems irrelevant.
If they tried to sell these games with the only way of playing it was with the normal control pad, these games would struggle to sell a couple of thousand copies. So what we have done is basically created a medium where garbage games become best sellers, which in turn tells shareholders in the game industry that this is what the average gamer wants...........
Motion Controls in general are going the way of Virtual Reality. VR was popular for a few years, mainly because of forced popularity by company's. However, it died down the next year. Motion Controls are already almost dead. Sony abandoned the move and the kinect is on it's death bed. Wii wil be obsolete with touch screen controls soon. Touch screen is the real way of the future.
KInect is not dead. All the rumors are pointing to the next Xbox shipping with an updated version of it. The reason the Kinect isn't that great is twofold. 1. Companies have no idea how to use it properly apart from a few (Twisted Pixel, Rare, Harmonix, Ubisoft and others) and 2. Microsoft decided to swap out some quality parts (camera, processor) to make the device cheaper to make and thus it can't function as well as they'd like it to.
I absolutely love the comment above that says: "If they tried to sell these games with the only way of playing it was with the normal control pad, these games would struggle to sell a couple of thousand copies."
I disagree. If Dance Central or Your Shape Fitness Evolved were games you could only play with a controller, they wouldn't sell ANY copies. You just can't have games like that without motion controls. I guess I'm weird because I like to have the option of playing games with a controller AND without. Once I bought the Kinect, nobody forced me to only play motion control games and hold me at gunpoint until I sold my Mass Effects and Burnouts and Minecrafts. I get to do both. Yay for choice and free will.
But, back on topic. I can only see voice controls working with Minecraft. Motions don't seem like they would make sense for this game.

Like in Creative Mode you could probably say Stone and it would give you Stone. That sort of thing.
Lame.

Kinect isn't terrible. It's just not right for this game (or many others).
It is right for the kids and family games.
