To the point, it seems to me that the way worlds are generated now is noticeably cruder. I like the new things, swamps, ravines, mine shafts, etc. But the maps seem less sophisticated. Different climates are placed next to each other, seemingly at random. I have yet to see a tree and/or snow covered mountain range on any new map. In fact snow is now always near sea level and accompanied by dense pine forests. No more snow covered elm trees or plains either. Some I can fix manually. Trees can be chopped down and planted and so on. But I don't really see myself building a whole mountain just because I want a pretty one with snow fall on it.
But it's been said that wold generation will change again, in the future. So I'm asking PC minecraft players, does it get better again? I miss my stunning views.
Should... I don't know about anything like as big as the mountains we have having snow, but there is 2 types of snowy that i know of and that is snowy plains and snowy hills. However usually those have the pines. I usually don't play on snowy maps much so maybe...
On another note the deserts don't get very extreme in hills anymore like they use to, and that is something I kinda miss. I haven't played the PC version in a while. Will the terrain change again, I would say yes considering we are missing jungles in the very least and those are dense, even more so than forests sometimes... So when that update comes we will see. I am mainly tired of the ocean maps being too common myself, as i would like to spend more time playing than generating new maps.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
They do seem a bit different. But that doesn't really matter to me. As long as their not crappy as hell. The only thing I'm really looking forward to is the next update.
I seem to get huge tundra maps whenever I generate a world. The current one I'm using has some snow in the spawn point but I haven't overly-explored it yet. The seed for it is "The Walking Dead", without quotes and keeping the spaces.
It's not changing. The current PC version is miles ahead of the current Xbox version, and the terrain generation has barely changed since beta 1.8. The only things that have changed is how common structures are and the addition of jungle biomes and improved (some would say) swamps.
^ This thread now officially accounts for both PC and 360 versions.
The snow bug will be fixed but that's the LEAST of the fixes that need to happen.
I think the terrain is fine. It's the same as it was on the PC. Those that like it aren't heard because they don't come here to say how much they enjoy it, they're playing the game. Those that dislike it, come here and raise hell to let everyone know how dissatisfied with it they are. It will quiet down in the future, just like it did on the PC version.
As for the snow bug, our version does not have it. 4J fixed it before hand so we actually have snow biomes and it still snows in our 1.8.

It never did quite down, it's the exact opposite. The current terrain is probably the most complained feature in the history of Minecraft, and I'm not even exaggerating. Those that do like it do infact post and talk about, but they give up trying to argue against the thousands of people who don't like it.
i can confirm it snows on xbox, im working in a snow biome currently, I also like the new terrain.... i made about 20-30 seeds before picking my new map and they all looked beautiful. Sure there was a couple of terrain abnormality's but that just gave the map more character
I never said I never liked the terrain. Once playing 1.0 for a a week or two I started to notice a pattern in the generation.
1.8 generation does seem very - mundane. Every seed looks basically the same; either you get this hodge-podge of biomes thrown together without rhyme or reason, or you get an ocean seed. Sure, the specific locations where they generate ont he map change, but the beauty that you saw in pre-1.8 worlds is gone forever unless you re-create it yourself.
I'm looking forward to the future fix to terrain generation that increases the frequency and height of the "hills" technical biome (in 1.2?) This will restore some of what was lost with 1.8.

Some, but not all of it, which is what bothers me and many people.

Guess what show I've been watching lately.
Come, you know it is true.
