So I was just sailing around my world trying to fill in the rest of my map. (My world is around 80% water). Then a thunder storm started. I was hearing a lot of lightning. Then I heard one and right when I heard it, I heard an explosion sound. Then all of a sudden my boat broke right when I heard it. However, I did not take any damage from it. I also know it could not have been a creeper since I was at-least 100 blocks away from land. So do you think it was lightning?
If you were sailing around in a thunderstorm, heard an explosion noise next to you (which is caused by lightning when it hits the surface), and your boat broke, then it was most likely lightning.
I've had my boat break after extended use in open water before without a thunderstorm, so yeah your boat can break. Probably just weird timing if you didn't take any damage.

I've had boats break on me multiple times in the middle of water with no land nearby, my thoughts were that I was simply too close to the edge of the map and running into an invisible barrier which then broke the boat. Could be coincidence of thunder happening at the same time if the same applies to you?

I was in the middle of the map and I heard an explosion sound at the same time as the thunder.

Was I hit by lightning?
