Just get a 20 inch HD-TV for like $250-$400. HD-TV's aren't extremely expensive anymore. A 50 inch was like $1000 5 years ago. Imagine the price now, maybe half?
Well, I think they(4J) realize they made a crappy decision with the HD only split screen. But whats done is done. Lets just move on and accept that us SD owners will never get to play splitscreen.

anyone who thinks 4j made a crappy decision to limit splitscreen to HD's is an idiot. they'd have 10x more people griping than they do now because their game is unplayable because they can't see jack. you can already barely read anything in HD splitscreen.

That is a logical reason.
Total Miner has 4 player spiltscreen. And yes, it is hard to see but not impossible.
I guess the xbox will never get the GUI size options that the pc has. But since I am an idiot according to TN55, what does it matter what I say anyway.
So, The OP blames dad for not buying an HD TV, And you guys are still talking about this????? Mom and Dad have other worries than how well Minecraft is displayed. OP has internet and Xbox so, I fail to see a problem. Lots of kids have way less.... You could be stuck with a PS2 Oh and 1942, it's still Total Miner no matter how many people are playing.....Not a Good Game IMO....
I still have an SD TV. .. in my bedroon, which I still play minecraft on. . . solo that is. I was lucky enough to buy an HD TV from very.co.uk for about £300, bargain as it's a 47" plasma. (You can pay monthly!)
I also waisted £20 on an HDMI cable to play split screen. . . I say waisted because 2 months after I realised that my SKY TV box came with an HDMI cable! I could have just used that!!!
I agree with conedx, I get annoyed when someone tells me, "Just get a better PC, it's ONLY £500, etc. People need to pay for food, electricity, bills. You can't just go out and buy a £400 TV.
Well, actually you CAN just go out and buy a TV. That's normally how people buy TVs.
Didn't this discussion end about 5 months ago? The solution was Microsoft permitting refunds for when it did not show the limitation on the first day of release. Even then, people kept calling for a recall for the next two months, and it was eventually a non-existant problem.
Now why does this debate continue?
Got me... I was wondering why this thread was dug up per say from the grave...O_o
I may not have a 720p HD TV which is what you need for splitscreen. But I also don't have the money to go spending on just anything i please. Not everybody has the loose cash to spend on things like this. Especially the younger ones still under the wing per say. They would have to rely on their parents for such things until of age or work... which ever comes first.
I understand where most SD tv people are coming from. What is the point of getting an HD tv if you can still barely see what is on the screen than on a SD... For me like i said there really is no difference in that respects. Anyway just please someone just lock close or do something for this thread to just die out... It is a pointless debate between the haves and the have nots...*shakes head*

Well, it is not really just like that. At least these people have money to buy Xbox 360s, video games, and computers.
Well most of them... Quite a bit of items were hand me downs per say...O_o So I get what I receive out of the generosity. I am grateful for what I have. Especially since games seem to be getting more costly over the years... and console systems...*shakes head*

I'm sorry, I didn't realize total miner was minecraft. Because Total Miner is now Minecraft you made an extremely valid, strong, intelligent point. Grats.
Didn't this game come out about 5 months ago?
After all that time, people still don't have the money for a TV?
I understand this is a problem for some people, but it sounds like they have much bigger financial problems than being able purchase a new TV. Playing minecraft split screen should be the least of their problems.
\A couple years back, before I saved up for a big screen, I just popped into Best Buy and picked up a 75$ HDTV on holiday sale. Slapped it on my desk and hooked my pc and xbox into it. Sure it was some brand I have never heard of, but I still run my cable and spare xbox on it in my basement. Considering that is was about the price of a xbox title and some batteries, it was worth it. I know for certain you can find something similar at Walmart for less than 100USD.
Whilst I sympathise with the OP on this, I think that 4J clearly rectified the problem by offering re-funds for people who bought the game not knowing that HD was needed, and by making it clear now that you need HD for split screen.
To carry on complaining about this now is equivalent to complaining that minecraft doesnt run on your original, 1st gen xbox....
I know that some people don't want to buy an HDTV for whatever reason, but I think you should just give in to the hype, save up some cash over the next few months and get yourself an HDTV. The video quality is MUCH improved, your eyes don't get strained watching huge pixels running around the screen, and you can finally play Minecraft with a buddy. Besides, I don't think it's possible to patch in SD splitscreen support. I reckon it'd be pretty hard to do so, and requires more time than 4J would like.
If you have some kind of eye sight problem, then I understand why you can't see teh difference. However, if your vision is fine, then there is no reason you shouldn't see teh difference.
Just look at some of these If you can't tell, then I'm sorry.
Also, if you think there is little to no difference, go onto YouTube and watch a video in 360 or 480 and then switch the same video to 720 or 1080. There is a massive difference.

hardly.... I never said there wasn't a noticable difference. All i said there wasn't much. And yes my eye sight is fine. The difference you see is just a color gradient difference, what you would call more crisp. To me there is not much difference since I can visually see that kind of crisp in my head when watching sd. It is the way my sight works... Think i see better than the screen presents, but not the top best.
And like i said before this to me is not a major difference. Now going from a black n white to color that is a major difference. but just adding more colors to the screen or what can be compacted on the screen essentially making things smaller on it to some degree, makes for reading sometimes worse or having to squint anyway, unless it has a setting that makes words bigger to be legible. Although i don't have a much a problem with small print, I do know some people do. For those that do have problems with sight or having trouble reading on the screen i do recommend getting a HD for specifically that reason alone.
But for someone like me, I have no true reason to get one. Which is better that is an individual perspective.

But that "crispness" is the point- HD is what allows you to see the split-screen halfway decently instead of it looking like you have cataracts.
So a (very) few are griping that they can't play split-screen on their (years old) SD sets. Even if 4J downgraded the program so those few (out of millions) could use their old sets (4J won't), those same people would then gripe that split-screen looked like garbage. What's funny is they're reading/replying to this on a PC or laptop with a LED/LCD display. (Did you know that Best Buy, Staples, or Office Depot don't even sell CRT's anymore?)
oh yeah i know 4J would never downgrade it... I just live with what i have personally. Get things when I can afford, or spare that kind of money, but with tight budgets it would take a while for one to get such an low cost model. It is not as simple as saving each month or paycheck, as that would probably take quite a while when things are tight. For me it may be a long time before i even consider buying one. I just have no use for one, as I have a tv. I can still play games on, although I actually liked my commodore64 moniter better, that I actually don't have with me since it is on the other side of the country in storage at the moment...lol
Oh i know what they sell... I'm not so old that I am on retirement funds... However i do agree with mostly what you said, beyond the way I see things... This will be the last post in this topic as I am tired of bumping and almost half repeating myself.... even if I half agree with both sides... ><
