Metal and classic rock I have about a 200 songs in a playlist that I set on shuffle. In truth I listen to the same concept of music as my parents and my grandparents.

What do you say to the god of thunder? **** you thunder *** *** **** ** ****- Ted Go see it
I listen to everything. In any given day I'm listening to: Primus, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, The Residents, Metallica, System of a Down, Buckethead, Lil Wayne, Rolling Stones, Tyler the Creator, NOFX, The Ramones, Sex Pistols... the list goes on and on.
I listen to Atreyu, My Chemical Romance, 10 Years, BFMV (only their early stuff), Avenged Sevenfold, The Offspring (they match MC in a strange funny way), And Rise Against.
Less often I listen to System of a Down, Sum 41, Three Days Grace And The Autumn Offering.
I've recently started listening to In Flames.
I mostly listen to Metal, Hardcore, and Alternative.

How the HELL... do you go from MCR... to The Offspring.... to In Flames?
We're talking about the same "In Flames" here, right? xD
And by "hardcore" do you mean hardcore punk? As in HxC? (Destruction of a King, The Acacia Strain, Defiler, stuff like that)

Stupid answer: "I hit the next song button"
I have different music for different moods. If i get bored and don't know what to listen to, then i listen to the offspring for a really stupid laugh (I rarely listen to them though I probably should have put them in the "rare" category). If I had a bad day or am in a bad mood I listen to Atreyu/In Flames. And if I am in a strangely good mood I listen to MCR (but MCR can be for a bad mood too). If i am somewhere in between then I listen to Rise Against and 10 Years. I listen mostly to Metal though and some days I will just listen to various kinds of music (all of the above); so to sum it up, I have no clue why or how i go between those bands i just do.
And as for "In Flames" I have started from their recent music and have been working backwards, I've just started "Come Clarity". (and I did like "A Sense of Purpose" as but it would have been alot better if he didn't sing it with the grace of a dying frog. And I liked "Sounds of a Playground Fading" but I feel that they used WAY to much post-processing and filtering.
And so far the only hardcore punk I listen to would be Rise Against's early work, which I know is soft for Hardcore, its more Melodic Hardcore (hope I spelled it right). I don't listen to too much hardcore simply because I don't know any good hardcore bands. I do listen to a lot of music with strong hardcore roots, though (Good Metalcore) like Early Atreyu.

I guess I get where you're coming from with the broad musical horizon. I listen to retarded gorilla heavy slam death like Abominable Putridity, Malodorous, Katalepsy, etc. yet I love Prince and Roger Troutman.
Mostly I'm into ridiculously technical stuff, The Faceless, Behold... the Arctopus, Infant Annihilator, Rings of Saturn, Polarization, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. I tend to find something I like, then lean drift toward the most extreme form of it. TTDTE is pretty much the only metalcore I listen to most of the time. Every once in awhile I'll listen to Chimaira, As I Lay Dying, or something along those lines.
As for hardcore, I'm not a big fan of it. A lot of hardcore songs just happen to be extremely catchy. So I listen to them obsessively for a week or two, then forget they ever existed. The Acacia Strain is actually pretty good though, mainly their old stuff. Their new album is too djent-y for my taste. They just keep tuning their guitars lower and lower, it's just a gimmick in my opinion.

(that is not even close to half of the artists on my longest iTunes playlist on my 160GB iPod Classic; which is exactly 655 songs)

Dubstep - Various artists, even Skrillex
Hollywood Undead
Gorillaz (For when i'm just relaxing on the Xbox)
Rise Against
Avenged Sevenfold
Linkin Park (Their old stuff)
Too many to list, it really depends on my mood honestly
I think Liquid Dubstep or Hardstyle goes best with MC, but I normally listen to Five Finger Death Punch or any other hard core bands, =P But when I'm really into it, Liquid Dubstep with the not so in your face feel of dubstep playing minecraft is truly awesome and you have to at least give it a try. Search Liquid Dubstep on YT.
You're all soft.. I like me some amon amarth, dethklok, rammstein, powerglove, and yngwie malmsteen while I play. Your brain will explode if you try to listen to them if you're not use to sick guitar and lyrics, favorite songs for them are war of the gods, the gears, ich tu dir weh, metal kombat, rising force, if you choose to check them out.. You're welcome.
