Since the update, I can't seem to make water/lava pools that I can draw from without depleting the source blocks. Is this happening to anyone else? Is it supposed to be like this now?
I was able to make an infinite water pool after teh update using the 2x2, pour into the diagonals method. I've never been able to make infinite lava though.
I had a 2x2, and I simply put a bucket of water in all 4 of the spots. But I was unable to draw from it without creating running water. Also, in one of my villages was a 2x2 well that was also extremely deep, and when I drew from that, it would also stop being still. Prior to the update I was always able to keep my pools still.

The wells in the villages that are 2 x 2 but deeper than 1 block will not remain still if water is collected from them; just as water collected from the ocean at places where it is deeper than 1 block will always created a current. This was this way before 1.8.2 and I don't think it has changed at all. I haven't tried making the standard 2 x 2 x 1 infinite water source yet, so I can't confirm your issue there.
ETA: If things haven't changed from before, you should be able to make the village well still again by placing a dirt block 1 deep under the part that's now moving; adding a bucket of water right on top (if it hasn't gone still already); and then removing the dirt block.
Water should remain infinite (not tested). 2 water blocks horizontally adjacent to an empty block will fill the empty block with a new water block.
This is why a 3x1 space with water in the 2 outside blocks will fill the center block.
This is why the L shape with 3 blocks also works if the corner is empty. The 2x2 pattern is actually this.
Can you confirm that if you followed this pattern, that it did NOT work? That would be a bug then.
