I would have posted this to the known bugs thread, but it is locked for some reason. Anyway, here is what just happened to me:
I'm exploring my first abandoned mineshaft, and I encounter a cave spider spawner. I kill all the spiders (eventually, that poison is a pain!) and disable the spawner by surrounding it with torches (one on each side plus one on top just to be sure!). My health was a bit low, so I backed off to let myself heal (I was still poisoned by the last spider I fought). The poison finally goes away, and my health starts to rise (glad I brought bread). Just as my health gets almost full, though, I start taking damage and I'm suddenly poisoned! I look around and there are no enemies visible in spite of my being able to hear a spider. I try attacking in various directions, hoping that I can hit whatever is hurting me in spite of it being invisible, but no such luck. I died, and decided to exit without saving so I could see if it would happen again.
I loaded up my game, and sure enough, it happened again. It's been hard enough to convince my wife to start playing on something other than peaceful, but there's no way she will with invisible mobs! Heck, I'm not sure *I* want to play on something other than peaceful with invisible mobs!
cave spiders are annoying. . i dont know if they're supposed to be able to go through a 1 block hole but they did. they go through walls.
and every mob i see whether its a zombie or a wolf is always taking damage from just jumping

Yeah, they are annoying. They can fit through a gap one block wide, & just half a block tall, Including those created by slabs. I haven't seen any mobs take damage from just jumping... Yet. Is it common?
Tried a third time, and managed to completely wall myself in at the end of the corridor. Dug a hole in my wall, and suddenly start taking damage again, even though no spider is visible. Plug the hole, wait for the poison to wear off and my health to start going back up. Once it was full again, I walked over near my wall. Did NOT dig a hole in it this time, but I started taking damage again anyway. Backed away from the wall (the place i had walled myself into was 3x2x3 tall), but continued to take damage and died.

i think you might be getting attacked from something on top or on bottom of you. because ive tooken damage from spiders disappearing through blocks. or an endermen poping out and killing you. or maby your hungry

There were two layers of stone above and below where I died, and my hunger bar was full. I think the cave spiders are glitching inside the stone floor and ceiling and attacking from there, unseen. My reason for thinking this is that I can occasionally hear one die (from suffocation due to being inside the stone, I assume).
My solution for now is the following:
1. See cave spider spawner.
2. Save and exit.
3. Load up on peaceful.
4. Disable spawner with torches.
5. Save and exit.
6. Load up on easy or higher.

I've been bitten by wall glitching cave spiders as well. From my understanding though(and from what I've seen from youtube vids) this happens on PC as well. It's unfortunate and annoying as hell when it happens but what can you do?
I've been having sort of the same thing, I'd be walking around a village and randomly take damage half a heart at a time. It's happened at least 4 times now but on the 4th at the last second i found it was a enderman. Did not make noise nor a particle effect. I can only assume there's a fair chance it was a enderman the previous 3 times as well.

Yeah, I've witnessed cave spiders glitching through a block from below before to attack me, it was really scary! Can't say I have encountered invisible spiders yet. I already get very paranoid when I'm exploring a mine shaft and now after reading this, it makes me think that they are freaking supernatural!
I've had that happen to me a couple of times. And it seems that the mobs aren't only invisible, but incorporeal - except for their ability to still injure you. For example, I was attacked in a cave by an invisible zombie once, so I fled into a short 2-block high and 1-block wide corridor. I was standing with my back to the wall at the dead end and kept frenetically slashing the air in front of me with a sword in hopes of killing the invisible zombie, yet I couldn't hit it even though it kept hitting me.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

Do you have any mods installed? This has recently started happening to me on my 1.4.7 + 130 mods world. Usually zombies, I "kill" them, and the 1st sure sign that they did not die is no exp drops (although items do). When that happens, sure enough, it is still there, but invisible. No amount of slashing will get rid of it. Logging out and back in reveals said zombie... one slash and he dies, dropping his exp.
I do have Thaumcraft installed, I know it adds some new mobs (removed Mo'Creatures thinking it was it. It had to go anyways cause squids no longer spawned no matter how mob spawning was set up). Removing Thaumcraft to test on my current world is not an option as this world revolves around it
Ok,,, were you using any mods? I am really trying to track down what is causing this... A mod, # of mods & internal server lag... still wondering if it is Thaumcraft, seems to happen to me mostly on angry zombies.

Wander into the 360 section by mistake, perhaps? We don't have any legitimate mods. Not that it is impossible, I guess, but definitely uncommon for 360 players to mod their game since it violates Microsoft TOS.

Yeah, I encountered that as well, while doing the tutorial… I hope 4J fixes all these bugs soon!

Edit: Same thing from a post on the FTB forum: http://forum.feed-th...-zombies.14200/
Optifine was suggested, but I already removed it.
