If you place stone brick stairs above the bed on a wall (one at a time), then break them they turn into cracked stone blocks!! no need for stronghold. Sure it costs a but but looks cool
I had a similar experience only I noticed if you place a stone brick stair against a mossy cobblestone block and then break the stair it gives you a mossy stone brick
