~Ok first off, by "control" I don't mean choosing where its at. You'll have to work with the area that you spawn, as of right now thats the only option.
~Ok second, I am making this guide for the sole purpose to be helpful. Because from what I've seen on the forums the minecraft community is extremely rude to newcomers or people simply trying to learn something new. I'm not expecting anyone to search the entire forum for the answer to simple questions.
~And third, this guide is simply just to help you control people the come into your world until you allow to let them leave.
~So here it goes, below is a simple image I made up in my flatworld. This image illustrates the spawn area of minecraft. I also used to this image to do some studies on the properties of spawns.
Steps:
1. Using a compass find the EXACT point that it points. This should be pretty close if you just spawn, if its a world you've had for awhile you may need to destroy the last bed you've slept in for it to work.
2. Once you find the "center" of your spawn(Indicated by the black wool in the image) mark it some way.
3. Now you'll need to count 13 blocks in all directions. Now in the image this 13 distance marker is represented by the Lapiz in the image. This area marks out the spawn.
I've tested the two different ways;
One bykilling myself exacty 50 times(took awhile) and not once did I spawn outside the Lapiz.
And two by placing lava. I couldn't place anyone inside the Obsidian barrier.
Now there are a few properties that you should know about spawn on what you can and can't do to control it.
~The spawn cannot be covered, if you do they players will spawn on the top of the spawn hence, losing control of spawn.
~And the last spawn property I've found is that the game will not spawn players in 2 deep water. This may be useless information but you can use this force the player into a much smaller radius of an area.
I hope this tutorial/info help someone make there maps.
I can do more image tutorials for things like redstone creations. But only images since I don't have a way to record...
Enjoy!
