i havnt even recieved the last update, let alone 1.8! my minecraft wont update, could it be because i dont have xbox live? is it a problem with minecraft itself? i have tried searching this prob on the web but came up empty except for one site that said i would have to delete minecraft and re-download. is this true? if so, wont be able to do that with the problem of a broken router. any help will be greatly appreciated.

OP: You need to be online to download the update, it doesn't just magically appear inside your Xbox. There are other ways to update though, granted that you have a PC with internet access and some sort of USB storage device.
Get a xbox live account, not necessarily gold, but just live.

Right, games will still update even if you have only a silver, non paid, account.
If the router is the problem try running a USB cord from the Xbox into wherever this machine is getting it's net from. I'm assuming you have a modem or something. It won't hurt your Xbox to be plugged directly into your modem just long enough to get the update!
That's probably the problem... if u dont have xbox live... then chances are, that you'll possibly not get 1.8. There, problem solved!
