I've been very pleased with the update. I haven't had any crashes, and performance has been better than the previous version. I knew there would be issues out of the gate, there always are...software always has bugs, so my expectations were a bit more realistic than some folks who are complaining loudly. As my kids and I play we make comments about 'here's b bug that needs fixing' but we just continue to play and have fun!

Into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid. You step outside, the creeper comes and blows you away.
I did have a strange thing happen though. The doors on my first few maps never made sounds when they openend or closed, but all of a sudden on my newest map that I am actually keeping now the doors make sounds again. Very strange, but nice. Also has animals so thats good. I think most people just needed to know the info that animals do respawn and that getting rid of all that tall grass would fix some problems. Had that come out initially I think there would have been far less gripes about the update.
No worries. The Update is a great step in the right direction. There will always be the .01% that whine and cry.....they just BiT*H on here while the rest of us are busy enjoying the game.
I have not seen any real glitches. My new worlds seem to run with even less lag than before (which was not much)
Creative is so much better on the Xbox than on PC. Needs a few of the computers updates but they will come.
It is a great time to start a new creative masterpiece.
I'm super thankful, though all my old worlds still work I started a new survival and keep getting my mind blown by the ravines and everything. It feels like minecraft 2 lol. Oh and thank god they fixed the dupe big, I actually feel a challenge in surviving.
Gonna have to disagree. I mean, don't get me wrong, progress on the game is a good thing....
...but...
I think 4J kinda dropped the ball. More than a little.
See, I play on a world with 6 other people. 3 of those people are girls. And while it might come off as a little sexist, that doesn't change the fact that the ladies' preferred building medium is wool.
Which, for all intents and purposes, has now mostly vanished from survival games.
Now, in 4J's defense, they didn't make this mistake first.
Which means they knew this was going to be a problem. In fact, having been lurking here as long as I have, I've read you people warn them about this. Repeatedly.
And they either didn't care enough to address the issue, or couldn't muster up enough stone to dare. Either way, the end result is basically making the players on my world choose between Creative and wool. Well, since they've never wanted to play in Creative, thinking it too "easy", no wool for us.
Now, the black rotated chests was no biggie. The 1.7 world being buggy is no biggie, as we'd pretty much assumed we'd be remaking when 1.8 hit for just that reason.
But not addressing the serious lack of one of the fundemental building blocks of the game (in Survival) is inexcusable to my mind. Especially when they had foreknowledge. And makes me question whether or not 4J has the leadership to helm this game. (I say 4J, because the xbox version is -theirs-. Thus, the responsibility too.)
Way I see it, either A) They are just porting the game, mistakes and all, which tbh warrants a "thank you" from me, but the remarks of gratitude belong to Mojang -- or They are making changes, just not major changes I believe we need (I'm looking at you, timesink skinpacks) or crushing logistical snafus, in which case they don't even really get my thanks.
Sorry to rain on your parade and all. But I've been getting an earfull since the update hit.
I am with you OP I am just fine with the update. So there are a few bugs here and there. SO WHAT! For something that was free people sure do complain alot. My only problem with the update is me! Now it is so easy to change things that I spend more time changing things to try any find a better look.
I love the update, sans a few minor things that are actually unrelated to all the crap being whined about right now. I'm playing the game again instead of going through my 4th run of Skyrim, so thats good. I just wish more was done about the animal spawns or something. Hunger is a big issue for me right now. Without melons spawning topside, animals that respawn nearly never, and wheat taking 3 days to grow....I'm getting a little burned out on trying to deal with it. So much so that I went into creative and just filled a chest with melon seeds to cope. But that is NOT a good solution, and it bugs me that they changed animal spawns without adding breeding. Its making a legit survival build nearly impossible unless ideal conditions happen at world generation. The bonus chest feature helps quite a bit, if you're LUCKY and it gives you a healthy food supply. That can earn you a few days. But a few days isn't even long enough to get wheat going, so you have to hope for spiders on your first night so that you can fish on day 2. I've made it to day 3 without food twice now, though I was avoiding killing the 2 cows that spawned near me.
I've tried making a chicken farm, using eggs to get more chickens....but out of 20 eggs I've yet to get one chicken. So...I dunno. Its a little deflating. At least we have villages, so typically there is wheat you can get from day 1. But I've had a world where 2 villages didn't generate right, and all that spawned was a half house and a well. Something about mountains, or what not. i can see how that might be an issue for others.
But after all of that, I still love the update. If for no other reason that creative mode fly sprinting all over the place.
I just started playing a few days before the update hit so I didn't have the experience of what did or didn't work before. I am really enjoying the game and have hit a few glitches but that doesn't take anything away from the play over all. Granted I probably won't do a lot of online play but even offline it is a great experience.
It seems to me that no one is happy about the update. I mean, It may be glitchy right now, but heck, I can't seem to find a single thread congratulating 4J for the update. I'm excited, I am satisfied, and I think that I am still looking forward to playing this game every after noon. But seriously. Can someone give me some faith that this is still a game that people aren't just crazed and teary-eyed over the few bugs that came with it?
I agree w/you and yes you're right there are a few glitches/bugs but this update is the one I was most looking forward to and excited for. The 1.8 update has sparked my interest and excitement back to Minecraft. After 1.7 I got very bored and stopped playing and 1.8 was taking too long so I moved on to play other games like Sleeping Dogs,Madden 13, RE6,Borderlands2,and Dishonored, but the minute that 1.8 got released I jumped right back in and haven't looked back and to 4J I do say thank you and this update has so many new things that are just too amazing to pass up. I think they did a great job and eventually we will get a bug fix so the people who are unhappy will have nothing to complain about for the time being.....hopefully.
People will always complain. I just got my first world freakin' deleted when I tried to rename it. I had that world since May, built my very first house in there. Of course it had sentimental value, and it's gone for good.
Still, I'm as happy as a toddler with the update. Minecraft has always about adaptation, about using your creativity to overcome challenges, and I'm going to do just that. I'll keep minning in a new world, and I'll make it far better than my first one.
I thank 4j of course. The updates may be buggy, but with a game of this scale, that's to be expected. Not a lot of companies take their time to listen to player feedback, and we have to apreciate that.

And for you wise guys, "grateful" is the correct spelling.
