I agree with the person above. It might also be God telling you that Minecraft needs to be put on hold untill you can get your life in order. Get a girlfriend/boyfriend. Job. House. Money. Friends. Stuff like that, not a new Minecraft world.
Sorry to hear about your world. I haven't even loaded mine yet, too afraid that the crash bug will kill them. I know it sucks seeing something you put time into changed overnight by things outside your control. It WILL happen again. But the things we gain, honestly, are worth the price each time. The entire game is just so much better for all the changes. The way worlds generate is better. Making a new world will definitely make you feel better, if for no other reason that getting to see the sprawling new landscapes and terrain. The ideals that will come to you as you do a creative mode fly over....I promise....will dwarf anything you've done already. Creative mode alone is worth the price of ALL the adventure modes that exist already. The things you can now make with that mode go far and beyond what you were able to do before.
I bet you could redo the entire adventure map in a couple hours now, and do it better. Larger. With more interactive things to do.
You don't spend the time designing and building and creating in Halo as you do in Minecraft... Some people treat their Minecraft creations as a work of art, your comparison is negligable.
And the principle is the same, from a business stand point it is forcibly changing a product you have already sold AFTER the purchaser has spent time & effort making changes. If the update was optional it would be different, but it wasn't.
On the other hand. We all KNEW updates were coming and each update changes the game. We also KNEW those updates were mandatory unless you played offline completely.
It's a $20 game. You got more value added to the game without spending any more money.
Additionally, you ToS generally says you aren't entitled to a refund. Xbox live support can be quite generous despite that, but legally, you aren't entitled to squat.
Play or not. Folks who go into full blown nerd rage over this aren't a big loss to the community if they quit playing.
well said, my entire village is covered in snow too; the change was good by te way, but I still freak out watching rain in one square and snowin in the next one and no raining in the desert cube
Wow people are so rude.
Turn it into a winter wonderland. There are many things you can do with snow.
Sorry to say but things change, things get ruined, SOME people move on and make new things while others sit and mourn their ruined creations.
your own uninformed-ness was your downfall... if you knew anything about the PC updates that we're following nearly verbatim you'd know there was a very VERY real possibility of a climate shift on existing maps. What they meant when they said "pre-existing maps wouldn't be affected by newly-added biomes" was that you won't have a swamp or something generate on an old map (a literal NEW biome, not just new in the sense that it's new because it wasn't there before).
you misunderstood what you were told and you relied on others for information you could've easily found on your own. It's your own fault, now unknot your panties, get the sand out of your vag, vaseline on your hurt butt might help too, and either deal with it or start over.
edit: oh and i'm sure they won't mind losing a "dedicated player" such as yourself. you're a douche.
It was also known, well since day 1, that the game was in a constant state of flux. It's part of the attraction. If you don't want your Minecraft to change, ever, unplug your network cable and don't upgrade.
I can understand venting, but I cannot sympathize with demanding a refund for a game that delivers on promises. It is unfortunate that someone is unhappy, but I think it ends at "unfortunate." Every purchase via the XBox marketplace carries the caveat that no refunds are possible. Ignoring that warning but spending your money anyway is just silly.
Minecraft is a game, first and foremost. The changes from the 1.8 update were promised changes. They are the kind of update that gives Minecraft on the console value. Very few of us live in a world compatible with the OP's wishes. Perhaps none of us.
I think you're over-reacting just a bit. When the update came, I also had a world that I worked on since May. I built two man-made islands out of smooth stone that I, of course, had to mine and smelt with coal that I also mined. The islands were both 64x64 blocks large with a 16x16 64 block high 9 story citadels. Both islands were surrouned by an 8 block high wall. Both had a wheat growing facility with many pistons to harvest them easily. I also had 2 other large villages, one made completely from sandstone in a deser biome. All of my villages and man-made islands were connected with a network of redstone-powered railways. I even built a tunnel under an ocean for my railways. and a monorails from one my citadels directly into my mines. I mined a 16x16x64 block hole in the ground.
Of course, I would have loved to build my man-made islands from stone bricks but they were not available until recently so I just built them from smooth stone. But once the update came out and stone bricks were added along with naturally generated structures and swamp biomes, I knew I had to make a new world. The update was inevitable, I knew oneday I had to abandon my old world in light of the new features. So without much hesitation, I bid my old world farewell. I didn't delete it, of course, but I likely won't see it as often.
Because now, I gotta do it all over again. I would love to do it all over again. I'd do it 15 times over again. If I worked 5 months on 15 Minecraft worlds every single time I'd still do it all over again. For me, it's the experience.
You have to let go. Did the lungfish refuse to breathe air? It did not. It crept forth boldly while its brethren remained in the blackest ocean abyss, with lidless eyes forever staring at the dark, ignorant and doomed despite their eternal vigilance. Would we model ourselves on the trilobite? Are all the accomplishments of humanity fated to be nothing more than a layer of broken plastic shards thinly strewn across a fossil bed, sandwiched between the Burgess shale and an eon's worth of mud? You must begin anew. Seek a new project. This is a minor setback. You cannot give up so easily.
First of all MarkyD2o12, sorry about your world. Second, I am an artist, I've been painting professionally since 2003, and when I was in college I had a professor that taught me the best lesson I've ever learned. In class we were given an assignment to paint a still life over the course of one week, so most of us spent easily over 50 hours on our paintings and were very proud. At the end of the week we had a critique and discussion and that was the end. Then, on Monday of the following week our teacher sat us down in front of our own paintings and gave us a new assignment. The new assignment was to paint two interacting figures...over our paintings. We all sat confused at first and then the teacher told not to be precous with our art, he told us not to evaluate our work, and that it doesn't matter how much time we spend on them, "just do it and then do it again. It will make you more creative." and it did, but I'm sure that advice does little to make you feel better, BUT the best thing about that lesson is that after that I valued what I learned from a piece more than the finished piece itself. I mean you spent how many hours on your island? 100? 200? and it was cool right? Then you can surely build something bigger and better, and with the tricks you've already learned you could probably build it faster. I mean what were you going to do when you were finished anway? sure you'll play the map for a while but will you just stop building? no way, you've got building in your blood. Don't stop, man, the best minecraft builders have all gone through world ruining problems but they're the best builders because they strive on. Hell, I've had minecraftx360 since it came out and only ever created one map. I've built statues, mansions, estates, castles, observatories, villages, even a redstone experimentation laboratory, but i'm moving on from it right in the middle of building an underground city, just because i want naturally occuring ravines and rivers on my map. Sure my other map isn't ruined but I doubt I'll come back to it. Anyway, from what I hear you've made an awesome map that many people are still going to want to play regardless of the snow situation. I say good job, man. I'll check it out, and good luck on your future builds.
Im sorry to hear of your frustrations but really, is it a life and death situation? Demanding money back for something you did, in full knowledge that versions get updated. Did you learn nothing from the 1.7 update.
When I hear people ranting like you do over pixels I really think its time to go outside and see the sunshine. Take big breath of fresh air. See friends and ask how they have been. Then come back all calm. Realise its not so big a change that you cant build your build, it will just be a little different. So what if it snowss, I bet it will look pretty with snow on it.
If life gives you lemons make lemonade. Chill out think of nice things come back all revitalised and get on with whatever build you were going to build in the first place.
1. No refund.
2. Instead of sitting on a forum and crying about your world, make a new one or cope with the current one
3. Mojang didn't grief, 4j didn't grief.
4. No way around it, unless you make a glass roof above your island.
5. It's not that big of a deal.
I thought 4J said 1.8. generation changes wouldn't happen on old worlds.
Terrain generation didn't happen to old worlds. Weather is soething totally separate.
Something people are not taking in consideration is that future patches are build with the 1.8.2 weather changes. So what you are really asking is that this patch be changed, then every future patches, instead of just being ported, to be rewritten to accommodate this. It will not happen.
Every line of code is effected by another. changing something completely unreleated to something can break it in the most fantastic ways. This would require a much longer R&D cycle for future patches.
And to be frank I'd rather not increase that time.

And a very sentimental person.
I think(or we think) that both of you need to change you priorities, and personality.
Games are evolving.
Actually, I salute the Gaming Industry for the updates!
They don't want to destroy your game, they want to improve it and prolong your playtime on their games.
Programming a game or any computer-developed application is a very complex thing to do.
I know the feeling of spending money and time for a game and suddenly the fun stops for some reasons.
I just move on and enjoy the newer things.
Change/s is the only consistent thing in life.
Also,
Smile! You're playing Minecraft!
