this thread was meant to be informative, clearly im not the only one frusterated about the issue, ive been asking questions over the last two hours to help me get more information, but ive yet to get information on it. By you commenting the thread and offering no infomration, your kind of becoming the problem that you seem to have with it... am i wrong though?
Someone must play the PC version to be able to tell me if its true or false that they have added, or plan to add a 'biome on-off' feature. Would totally resolve all issues
My guess would be that even a 1.6 world that has been played on and saved in 1.7.3 would just crash if the player attempted to open it again in just 1.6. Usually with software, once it's saved using a newer version, it doesn't go so well if someone tries to resave it using only the older version. Usually, the file itself becomes corrupted.
Thanks, that does make sense. I was afraid this question was going to get lost among all the crazy talk going on
I love the fact that I just recieved infractions for this thread. I guess I got penalized for playing a game i like, and penalized for discussing a problem with the game.. Instead of adding any information that would be helpful the moderators would instead prefer to just penalize more and more. This is a joke
probably the best words of advice as far as dealing with it ive heard all day. It's just disheartening to think i wasted all those months simply plotting out snow free land for no reason. Lot to think about, i dont want to just quit playing, i just didnt want to address a problem i didnt think was fairly put on me. i was actally hoping enough people addressed their aggrivation for the problem until they un-updated the game, removed the weather thing, and re-updated. I don't know, im not usually one to trust anyone building anything in my world out of pure fear of griefing, and ive been successful, its just a sin that i couldnt join in and be excited about how awesome the update is, i waited up all night to theoretically watch santa claus make out with my mother =(
I can only imagine, the small and seemingly safe and warm resistance in a dark and desolate world, waking up to find that the peace wasn't meant to last, watching as the ice creeps into your home, and the cold takes over, consuming you...
a sad tale indeed. but remember, it isnt over...
I have a similar tale in my world, though not as tragic as only part of my home was taken. I was very disheartened as-well,
untill i started a new world for the first time since the update, and saw a beautiful young world, so very different from my last, with new adventures to be had, and so as many generations have before me, i moved on, migrated to a happier place.
you dont have to take the same route of course you can stay and fight, you can battle the cold untill you freeze, and just maybe, youll find a way out, its a long and hard road though...
these are your options as a see them.
I appreciate your complement, and i wish you luck.
I would recommend taking a break from Minecraft, and playing some other games untill the next update comes out, and starting over. It does suck that you lose work; a few of my worlds wont load now either, worlds that I put much, much work into. But that's life. I'm still playing, still building and still having fun.
I say wait for the next big update, 1.2.3, because when they introduce yet more biomes and the Anvil generation system, weather patterns will shift yet again. Its the price of the new features and terrain. The only way they could "fix" it is to have preserved the 1.7 system intact, which would mean no creative, no new items, no new mobs, and other issues. This was known, discussed and mostly accepted by most of us a very long time ago.
This is what I'm asking myself: I had all those cool things in my old worlds. How can I use what I have now to bring them back to life even greater than they were before? Try not to take it as a loss, but as a chance to make what you had pale in comparison to what you can do now.
Sorry to hear that. The same thing has happened to me as well.
I can't believe how useless some people are at finding these bugs while in testing.
Its not a bug. Its the way the weather system functions. If I'm not mistaken, every so often the game "rolls dice" so to speak to determine if it should start raining, snowing or whatever. If it decides its time for weather effects, it reads the world's seed to determine where the biomes are and it plays the appropriate effects. It does the same thing to determine things like grass and tree leaf colors.
The issue is that the seed you used no longer generates the same biome locations. So when the weather program reads your worlds seed, it plays the weather for the areas that seed would generate in 1.8, not how it used to generate them. That's not something they can fix; its just how the program functions.
It's really annoying to hear about all these people complaining about the update when it finally comes! One moment "I CAN'T WAIT!" the next "GIVE ME A REFUND!". I know the different types of weather ruined your world (along with many others) but that is what happens when a game gets an update. So my advice is either redo it or don't play anymore. It is that simple. Creative mode can have you build the same thing in a matter of a month.
It happened to everyone of us, not just you. But wait, what's that? The others aren't complaining. They may hate it but they aren't going to make a thread and waste everyone's time over a tiny problem that could be fixed with torches and glass.

Calm down
waste everyones time? haha sorry pal, did u have something better to do, is that what made you go on a forum for a video game and read and comment something you claim is a waste of breathe? Haha your a clown bro, and others are complaining, it was stupid how the weather patterns have to change in order to get new stuff. No torches or glass is going to fix it, shut your mouth

That... is Fing awesome, haha i guess its 2012 the weather changes everywhere. Kind of want to build through it, but now i hear the patterns for weather are going to change allover again when anvils come? See! Lol thats what i meant, can kep redoing and rebuilding, and they can keep moving the snow over and over
Don't know if this has been said but usually when minecraft updates the biomes shift. So you should only have to wait an update or two then the snow should be gone.
You can't shut your mouth when you are even talking (using a keyboard). Just get a bunch of torches (creative mode) and just change it back to normal. If it is that important to get it back to where you liked it, you would just do that.
It could have been worse. You could have gotten stuck like me with a biome switching from snowy to rainy. I had a small mountain village that I loved having covered in snow for the most part. Now I can't expand on it because the new buildings won't be snow covered. Could I complain about it, and get angry, of course I could, but that wouldn't fix anything. Instead I'm planning on starting a new world in creative and finding a seed with a good amount of snow to make a better, stronger, faster village (yes I am planning on making the $6,000,000 village), in a fraction of the time. There's an old saying that applies here. "When life gives you lemons, cut open those lemons and jam them into life's eyes. I don't want no d*mn lemons."

I started playing Minecraft back in May for the very first time, and I was immediatley drawn to the creative aspect that this game carries that no other game does quite the same. I immediatley started drawing out plans, marking territories, boarders. I took my time carefully because I wanted my World to ressemble how I thought things should be.
I spent 3-Months plotting and adding massive amounts of land in the middle of the ocean, I wanted to make a man-made island worthy of nice buildings. I tried to isolate my island away from the majoritivley snow generated seed that I was given upon seed generation.
But lastnight, something happened. After several attempts to play in the new 'Creative Mode' having my Xbox freeze up over and over, I finally entered the game correctly. I took a neat 'fly-over' of my man-made island to witness an unjst, godly act of internal griefing. IT WAS SNOWING ON MY ISLAND!! The Island that I purposely constructed AWAY from the snow biome, was now covered in snow! My map has been FULLY-EXPLORED for months! They told me I wasn't going to have the newly-added biomes since my World had been totally explored. So why on Earth would they randomly add snow?
Don't they realize Players spend time and effort creating what they want, adding biomes to unexplored seeds makes sense, it adds to the game, but WHY would they have added snow to my map? It doesn't even make sense. Take a player like me for example, I spent months and months getting everything how I saw fit, I play roughly 8-10 hours a day and really enjoy the game. And now I have to suffer because I made my World months ago? That's not right. I've spent countless hours that I'll never have returned to me to play a game I enjoy.
I don't care why, I don't care how, I don't know who I'll have to contact or what the number is, but I DEMAND this problem to be fixed. I'm hoping it's a sick glitch/bug otherwise Mojand griefed me worse than any 12-year old angry child could have ever. The fact you added snow to an already explored World is beyond me. There must be other players out there that are in the same position as I am! It's ridiculous!
Luckily, I saved the game right before the 'illegal snow' fell in the hundreds around my island. But If anyone could assist me as to where to take this problem, please help me out. I literally can't play or it will load the snow chunks as soon as I spawn in.
If this problem can't be resolved, then you lost a dedicated player for good! I would never 'deal with it' or make a new map, never ever. Thats alot of time and effort and it's unfair to ask that of anyone. If the adding problem is unresolved I demand a total refund of my money. Nothing about adding biomes was ever discussed for explored worlds, ever. It's not my fault, it shouldn't be my problem!
What did you guys do, rush putting the update out? Your one of the smaller, privatized video-game companies that I've ever played for, if you can't consider problems players are facing and resolve them to keep customer based, then no one will. I'm so freaking mad!

I have to say, as my first original world suffered the same snowy shock with the new update, it's part of the gaming world.
We all want new content, more content, fixes and patches. Well, games run off code and not everything jives when your making, changing or fixing things.
Since the dawn of gaming patches, there have been rewards and consequences. Some a begin, some are awesome and some are terrible.
Gamers know this fact of gaming life. Swallow it and deal with it because perfection is just an idea and your only playing a game.
