did you read every 4j steve said? he said he look into it.
i cant argue the vast majority of players might have been 'aware' as you say, but i can arge its not particularly common to go on the forums of every game i enjoy and read every detail...
but regardless, i did read up on it to the best of my knowledge, and it promised existing worlds would not change, i even double-checked to ensure my map was 100% fully seen/explored to prevent it
does anyone play PC? Is there an ability to turn off biomes?
Just because you're treating like a work of art instead of a game doesn't make it a work of art. Also, many people do spend 100s of hours playing Halo (They perhaps shouldn't, but they do nevertheless.) Perhaps, you just shouldn't have invested quite so much time in a "game" world.
Its up to each individual what they consider to be art... People can spend 500 hours designing and building a world in Minecraft and somebody can spend 1 hour painting a lake on a piece of canvas, 500hrs vs 1hr, what makes one clearly art and the other not?
As for Halo, yes you can spend 100hrs playing halo, but you are not creating your environment that is then changed under your nose without your consent, are you?

a glass layer at ceiling is not a solution. its a bandaid for a more aggrivating problem. What is i make the glass box you continue to sugest and they decide to add a lava biome underneath it? your not getting it
What I don't get, is that post. I told you how to stop snow falling on your city, that's a solution.
Lava biome, though- not happening. Even if it did, they can't add it to existing chunks and wouldn't affect your city. How else would they add it? What would they make it do, fall from the sky? Good thing you'll have that glass!
Everytime i enter the start menu for the game, it always has these uninformative queer sayings in the top left of the screen letting me know that 'Han Shot First!', they could've wrote, "hey pal, be careful not to play or invest too much time, we might just cover your shat in snow ;-)"
Question: A lot of people are saying to delete the cache and go back to the vanilla version but how would that effect say sticky pistons, etc that were added in the previous update? Would the sticky pistons just magically disapper since you would no longer have that update downloaded either if you cleared the cache. Just curious on how that would work.
I really feel bad for you all that spent all that time working on your worlds and then have this update turn it into a mess. I am lucky I didn't really do massive builds, just a lot of exploring so I was not affected by this and it was easy to just start a new world.

The glass would create an eye-sore above the world that shouldnt have to be there... Especially since the 1.7.3 update when the texture of glass from a distance just looks like a silvery/white smudge.
That solution would arguably be as much as an eye-sore as the snow itself.

Once again, somebody who can't grasp the fact that 4J told us it WOULDNT affect existing worlds..
4J never stated that weather would not change. We have all known that weather would change. There have been multiple topics about this over the past few months. Weather WAS GOING to change to match the new coding. Your seed number is the same but the generating algorythms have changed. If you made the exact same seed today with the exact same coordinates. The map would match the weather patterns that you are currently having. Basically everything in your world that has been previously explored is treated as "man made".

4JSteve stated on twitter and in a PM to myself (which I have linked several times now) wayyyyy back in July that weather effects should NOT change in existing worlds.
Actually Princess_Zoe you're the one that did not understand. Weather IS NOT associated with terrain generation. Weather is a dynamic aspect unto itself. He said terrain generation would not be effected in already established worlds. It hasn't been. That is why old world didn't magically receive ravines, strong hold,s and villages.

Read the PM I sent to him, it was quite clear that I was speaking of the biome code change, not the terrain...

Treat it as an overcast, don't look up, pray we get texture packs that help glass.
There's not solution to this. We're not going back to 1.7.3, and the biomes aren't really changing to much later on. If you don't want to rebuild your structures, then you'll have to do your best to deal with it.

Thanks.
Was that in reference to the July update to 1.7.3? I suspect it was and not a reference to the further update to 1.8.2.

It doesn't matter what you said. What matters is what he said. Which was, and I quote "ant changes to world generation shouldn't affect worlds that have already been generated."
Your question was avoided and answered with an answer that did not answer your question.

Not my fault if he cant and/or chooses not to read plain English.

My guess would be that even a 1.6 world that has been played on and saved in 1.7.3 would just crash if the player attempted to open it again in just 1.6. Usually with software, once it's saved using a newer version, it doesn't go so well if someone tries to resave it using only the older version. Usually, the file itself becomes corrupted.
Put up torches. The update was in no way rushed. I waited all night for the update, and it was beautiful. I wept. I also have had suckish destruction of my work. I have lost ENTIRE worls on the computer to an enigma, and i did not cry.
Use seed jiki for an anomoulous village well on the edge of map. One well and no village.

Minecraft and life have this in common: things change. sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes for the worse. Im not asking you to say it doesnt suck, Im not asking you to say its just a game, that your time in it wasn't meaningful to you.
but man, if you cant deal with the change in a game, Id hate to think what would happen if you walked outside one day and it started snowing on the house you bought in Florida.
you should be able to handle this. you should be stronger then that, you cant let change take this game from you. its your game after all.
I could paint a masterpiece, but Im not to shallow to think that even that would last forever how i want it, the paint will grow old,

probably the best words of advice as far as dealing with it ive heard all day. It's just disheartening to think i wasted all those months simply plotting out snow free land for no reason. Lot to think about, i dont want to just quit playing, i just didnt want to address a problem i didnt think was fairly put on me. i was actally hoping enough people addressed their aggrivation for the problem until they un-updated the game, removed the weather thing, and re-updated. I don't know, im not usually one to trust anyone building anything in my world out of pure fear of griefing, and ive been successful, its just a sin that i couldnt join in and be excited about how awesome the update is, i waited up all night to theoretically watch santa claus make out with my mother =(
