Exactly the same thing has hapened to my world. Months and months of work on an underground city and now I can't even see it. And anyone who suggests starting a new world is hardly getting the point. People have invested months of time in a creation that has been arbitrarily taken away from them with no warning. It's left me not wanting to load the game ever again.
the warning was over a damn year ago when 1.8 was actually released. this new breed of idiocy across the forums claiming there was no warning is ridiculous. you're blaming everyone but yourselves for not bothering to look up any major changes throughout updates. it was stressed pretty freaking hard that this update was a massive game-changer and will likely be the largest of any, wouldn't you think that'd be some sort of que to maybe look up some of the changes? apparently not, because you wouldn't have made this asinine comment if you did.
Someone needs to wake up and realise the is the XBOX forum not the pc forum. I wasn't playing minecraft a year ago so why would I have checked out update details at that time ? The listed log of the latest update changes made NO reference to void fog whatsoever. If you're going around accusing people of making asinine comments then it doesn't really strengthen your assertion when you miss out blindingly obvious flaws in your reasoning. Next time you might want to stop and think before posting as you've only succeeded in showing yourself to be a class A moron.

Yes, this is the 360 forum. But the game is a port of a PC game. Everyone knows that, its a very clear thing. Its also pretty obvious that all of the PC content will be brought over, this is a thing which has been clearly stated many times. I put serious doubt in the fact that people have not been at least glancing over the PC update lists to see what is coming, especially from forum goers here. The PC update lists have been posted here a million times by more users than I care to count. The information wasn't just presented...its been shoved in our faces, here at least, since day 1. Now a user that has never been here, or ever owned the PC game, or ever had internet, MIGHT have a case.
But those are not a terribly large group of people. Furthermore, since I'm aware of many people who actually FALL into that group personally, many of those very people still found a way to be informed of what was in store for MC360 anyway. This is an age of smart phones, PC's, and tablets and the average person in a 1st world country is literally a walking internet connection. To say they were unaware indicates that they simply had no desire to BE aware. I find it hard to really sympathize with someone who is suffering from self inflicted ignorance about something in a time in human history where knowledge can be gained in the laziest possible way.
I also feel you pain. I too worked for months on my world. I never used the duplication glitch. Trying to keep my little world pure. What I was most proud of was my 10+ minute minecart track. I was ranked 386 in the world for travel in peaceful mode. I mined out more than 1/4 of my world at level 12 to get the resources to build this. Not to mention tons of above ground work on buildings a huge tree house with a mob spawner/killer hidden inside of it. My huge tree now looks like a dirty green piece of crap. The snow that has appeared in my world is very inconsistent, patchy and looks like crap. I opened this world in creative and now my leaderboard ranking has gone from 386 to 3 million something. It also now says my world was made in creative mode. Sad? Mad? To say the least I'm ing pissed. I'm still simmering on this and haven't yet decided to stop playing all together or start over. They trampled over our hard work with little warning.

Someone needs to wake up and realize we're following PC updates verbatim with the exception of a couple things here and there being pushed back and brought forward. Everything was known to anyone who cared to look. There were also numerous topics before the update was released regarding the potential biome shift and in pretty much all of them there was someone who pointed out that there was a massive shift in PC so there's a very god chance it'll happen to us. Now there's all kinds of people pissing themselves because of their own ignorance to the updates.

I see you've met my good friend, void fog. The most useless and annoying (intended) feature of Minecraft!
I quite like it actually. Gives me a haunting feeling when I travel farther down into the abyss. And for those who are complaining about the lighting, I understand its a pain but its not that bad.
It's repeating myself, but I checked the official list of new features from 4J studios and no mention of void fog was made. Had I known it was in and would obscure all my underground city then i would have declined the update.
because not every feature in there. make mushroom bigger not in the list also.
and pc people got surprised too when notch added "the void" and its not on the official list too.

Also the lighting isn't sufficient enough. Didn't they make torches more efficient on PC?
